Anybody willing to donate money to replace this piece of s***t with a DJI to monitor mangroves on a remote pacific island?
Ok, I wanted to be optimistic about this drone after reading all the negative reviews, I was so, so wrong. I purchased it for the purposes of using it for mangrove and shoreline erosion monitoring as part of grant funding I secured for the org I am volunteering with (I've used professional drones before for monitoring and am not a novice flyer). It had the best specs within the limited funds we had, but if we had the money I would definitely have bought a DJI. Took it for a few test runs, apart from a very annoying calibration process where the manual and Youtube videos disagree, all seemed fine. So, gathered the troops to teach them how to fly it and how to take the right photos for monitoring; calibrated properly, app/remote/drone linked up (app is terrible by the way), took off, got to about 8m in the air and the drone just took off flying sideways, could not control it at all and it went into a local ladies breadfruit tree where it proceeded to cover itself in breadfruit sap (after the prop guards broke), we were less than 30m away so it should not have been a signal problem. On a positive note, it still flies after a pretty hard hit and changing the props, but it poses a serious hazard to public safety and after a few VERY conservative flights in which we lost control 30% of the time we won't be using it again. Don't be optimistic, pay the extra $100 for a DJI Phantom 3 if you're not in the market for the more expensive drones. There's a heck of a lot less chance of accidentally killing someone with DJI products.

which was very easy due to the LED markings
I decided to purchase 2 of these and conduct some aggressive tests on model 1. This is a very stable drone. I actually conducted my first flight at night, which was very easy due to the LED markings. GPS calibration is easy and if you follow the YouTube steps, you'll be perfectly fine. The only vague and confusing User Guide areas are regarding connectivity with the range extender. The manual states to connect to the camera, when in fact you should connect your phone's wifi to the actual extender, not the camera. The extender and camera are already paired and if you try to connect to the camera..... Your range extender is useless, since it is not connected to your actual device (phone). The other flaw, is during calibration - nose should be upwards, not downwards. You'll notice in the video, calibration is done upwards. My advice: "Read the entire manual". The recovery feature works like a charm. I flew as far as I could out of range and bam!, it came back home safely each and every time. However, make sure you're landing spot is clear above, the drone won't know if there are any trees above you, so calibrate your GPS spot in a clear area. I experienced some crashes with this little guy, and the propellers are amazingly durable. However, these guards are not very durable. I may actually customize my own with a light aluminum or carbon material. Video could be a bit more stable, but still very very nice! Make sure you have a good network signal on your phone, otherwise you may get image drops every couple seconds on the app. And again, pair with the range extender, not the cam. The x-drone does very well in windy conditions with the GPS toggle feature. I recommend this product, especially for what you get at this price. That's why I bought 2. If you do the math; new props, new guards, extra battery... you're already close to $300 dollars. For a few more dollars, you have a backup drone ; ) Have fun and feel free to ask me any questions regarding this product directly.

this drone and company it HORRID!!!
This is what i wrote on Facebook So, I was trying to NOT have to write on this page but, you have left me no other option. I have 2 messages on private messages about problems I am having with my drone. Both messages have been met with "let me get to my tech department about your problem" I guess that is code for Shut up and go away! I have a muvi x drone with several issues namely loosing absolute control of the drone! I have ZERO confidence in this product. I have a re seller that won't take this unit back and a manufacturer that won't address this consumer! I don't know what else to do. My email is [email protected] next step is on you. I know now that I have to crank up the bullhorn of social media to share my dis satisfaction with this product and how this matter has been handled. Customer service and follow through is HORRID! The reviews on this drone is a KNOWN issue for this drone....KNOWN! try to fly it 40 feet vertically you will lose network connection. What happens WHO KNOWS it won't return to home when you tell it to. In the instructions it will tell you to flip the switch off of GPS then back to GPS till network connects.....WHAT!!!!!! So lets try that Yep NOPE it does not work. Because I have calibrated the compass each time I fly, the battery almost empty it ONLY THEN will return to home.....oh right it crashes BECAUSE IT DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH BATTERY POWER TO SAFELY RETURN TO HOME!!!! I have not ever seen the picture on the app ever turn to landscape mode so the picture is sideways. When you go into the settings the picture will orient correctly. When you go back to video mode it switches back to the wrong orientation on the picture. I have ZERO faith in this drone and very little faith in this company. Please Veho PROVE ME WRONG and make me a happy customer....please.........

10 out of 11 flights so far I have lost complete control of the drone
First thing to mention. This drone meets all the FAA requirements recently set out so you MUST register this drone with the FAA. I've played around with toy drones like the Syma 5XC and decided to get a larger professional drone for photography purposes. The Muvi X-Drone came up during Amazons black Friday week for half its list price so decided to go with this rather than the DJI which I was initially going to get. There were no reviews at the time so this was going to be a bit of a gamble. The Muvi X-Drone comes nicely packaged and well padded in its large box and includes everything you need to get you flying (except for AA batteries for the handset) including a spare set of propellers. Assembly is very easy. Basically just charge the battery and extender, twist on the props and tighten and screw on the propeller guards if you wish to use them. Screws, a screwdriver and a propeller tightening tool are all included. There is an included manual taking you step by step through the assembly process if you should need it (you probably won't) and there is also a nice little video on the Muvi site showing you assembly. The Battery. The battery itself is fairly large and has a nice feature on the back whereby you can press a button and get an indicator of the remaining charge (split into thirds) to give you a quick idea of how much flight time you have left. A full battery charge takes around an hour and half and according to specs should be good for around 20 minutes of flight time. This is not quite true however as you will spend time aligning the GPS etc. before flight. In reality you get around 16-17 minutes of flight time on a full charge. The Camera. The Muvi X-Drone has a nice built in 16Mp camera featuring a sensor like the ones you get on small compact cameras (a 1/2.3 size sensor). It has a range of modes which you operate through the downloadable app so that you can change frame rate, video resolution, camera single shot or multi-shot (10fps) etc. Note that by default the video mode is set to PAL (the British standard) so the first thing you would want to do is to change that to NTSC (American standard). Video is recorded in .mov format (H264 codec) and is easily transferred to .mp4 format through tools such as Bigasoft MP4 converter for uploading to websites or Facebook. Still images are nice and clear and movies are sharp however there seems to be a rolling associated with movies. I'm not sure if this is something to do with the propellers affecting the video or whether its the camera itself but every video I have shot so far has a rolling effect to it. Don't get me wrong however the video is very good, clear and definitely useable. There are four different zoom modes that you have access to ranging from ultra wide angle to narrow. The camera is gimbaled slightly to give you a smoother picture but only operates up and down (full forward to roughly 90 degrees downward). You cannot swivel the camera on the x axis. The App. The Muvi X-Drone app is compatible with Android and IOS devices. It supplies you with basic information like the state of the battery, controls to switch between video, single shot camera and multi-shot and access to the options for setting things like frame rate, zoom mode etc. for the camera. Most of the display is taken up with a video feed so that you can see exactly what the camera on the drone is looking at. There is a noticeable (roughly 2 second) gap between the picture you see on the app and what is happening with the drone itself so you have to bear this in mind when moving the camera or the drone. One big downside to the app (and something the DJI app does) is tell you how far and high the drone is from you. This is a big omission especially since now you are not allowed to fly drones above 400ft however you have no way of knowing how high the drone actually is. The handset. The handset is large, sturdy and feels nice to the touch. Easily holdable for the complete duration of a flight. On the handset there are four sets of toggle switches along the top, the main drone controls and buttons for starting and stopping video recording and taking pictures. The toggle switches are nice and large and easily accessible whilst flying although to be honest for the most you won't actually touch 3 of the toggles and really only use the switch for the camera to move it up and down. The right most toggle is your control mode, whether you wish to fly it in GPS mode or manual flight. Always use GPS mode and I'll get into why a little later. The handset also included a holder for your phone (it easily fits my Samsung S6 Edge plus which is a fairly large phone) and next to that sits the wireless range extender. According to the specs the drone itself can fly up to 500m (roughly 1640ft) however the wireless range extender only works up to 300m (roughly 948ft). Flight. Flying the drone is extremely easy. Much easier infact than toy drones due in most part to its auto hover feature. When you get to your destination where you wish to fly the drone, the first thing you want to do is to align the GPS. Now this is where the manual the Muvi's site differ. The manual tells you one way to align the GPS however the video on the Muvi site tells you a completely different way of doing it. The Muvi website has a short video on how to align the GPS. Use this and not what the manual says. Simply do a search for Muvi X-Drone and you will find it. Aligning the drone is a case of moving both controller sticks to the top inside (left stick moves up right, right stick moves up left) and after a second or two the lights on the drone will start to flash. Next, being careful you need to pick up the drone and move it around its 3 axis (refer to the video on the Muvi site). Once aligned the front green lights on the drone will turn solid and you are aligned and ready for flight. Once aligned, make sure the right most toggle on the controller is set to GPS. One of the features that the Muvi X-Drone has is that it will automatically return to base should you fly it out of range or the drone loses contact with the handset. This only works in GPS mode and is essential as its one of the biggest downsides to this drone. Losing connection. Since getting the drone I have taken it out to fly 11 times. Every time I have it to GPS mode and I am so glad that I did. Out of the 11 flights I have lost contact with the drone 10 times. So far there has only been one flight where I was in complete control of the drone from start to finish. It seems to be fairly random as well. I have flown the drone higher and farther in still had contact with it whilst other times I lose contact. An example. I took the drone out to a location and after flying for around 2 minutes lost all control of the drone. With having it on GPS mode, the drone returned home and landed. I took off again and managed to fly higher and further, from the exact same spot whilst still in complete control of the drone. As said, I have taken this drone to 11 different locations and lost control of the drone 10 times during the first flights. This cuts down on your flight time as it spends time returning home and landing and in my opinion is a massive problem with the Muvi X-Drone. Especially now with the government getting involved in drone flights. Losing control of the drone also affects your confidence in the product. How far dare I fly it? How high? Should I fly it over water? It is very hard to say as you don't know whether or when you will lose control of the drone. This is the reason I say that you must fly this drone using GPS every single time as with GPS mode the drone will return home (at least it has with me so far although my confidence that this will happen every time is not there). Overall. So overall this is professional drone with an excellent semi-stabilized camera in it. The app is quite good although basic and missing some key information and there is a roughly 2 second delay in the picture updating in the app. Control is very easy when you do actually have control but there is a serious lack of confidence in the Muvi X-Drone as you regularly lose all control of the drone itself. This could have been a superb drone and one to rival DJI's Phantom however as it is I am apprehensive every single time I fly it and will be buying the DJI Phantom to replace this.

Great flying machine, but jittery video.
This drone is essentially the same as the AEE AP10 and the Aries X-10. That means that it is a great flying drone: lots of power, lots of battery time, and excellent stability and GPS function. I had an Aries X-10; again it was a great flying machine; but the video was jittery--it had no stability system for the camera. When I saw the Veho advertised as having a stabilized camera which allegedly would produce "smooth" video, I thought Wow--that is just what the Ares X-10 needed to be perfect (I own a handheld camera with an optical stabilization, and it works perfectly). So I purchased the Veho. Alas, the video is not only far from perfect, it is far from the advertised "smooth." Unfortunately if you want a drone that flies as well as this one, and also produces smooth video, you cant pay less than the $700 Phantom 3 Standard.

They do what they are supposed to do. Protect ...
They do what they are supposed to do. Protect the propellers. Although I wish the were a little more durable.

DO NOT BUY THIS DRONE! Loses control easily, very dangerous
I am an experienced drone operator. That being said, I have handled little toy drones much better than the Muvi Drone. I bought this for my father last year, and he always complained that he could never properly calibrate it. When I finally looked into it, I realized that the instructions for calibration in the manual were completely wrong. Thankfully, they provide a YouTube video with the proper way to calibrate it. After finally getting he solid green light signifying that calibration was complete, I turned on GPS mode, moved the camera to ensure connection, and took flight. The only problem that occurred from this was that it took flight sideways and was uncontrollable. When I finally shut the motors off, I recharged the batteries and then recalibrated the drone, making sure there weren't any phones, keys, or anything else that could interfere with the calibration process. Again, I got the solid green light signifying calibration was complete, and took flight again with my GPS on. Almost the same result, but I was able to partially control it. Suddenly, when the drone was approximately 10 feet from the ground, it lost connection with the controller. The camera still worked perfectly fine, but the drone decided that it wanted to be a space ship. It continued ascending in altitude, I could not control it whatsoever, and I could see it drifting towards the road at such a high altitude. Finally, before it lost total connection and caused a fatal accident, I shut the motors off. The drone took a very long plunge, luckily the landing was softened by bushes. However, the damage was done, I know I'll never get my money back, and I also know that I will never again buy or recommend this product to anyone. DO NOT BUY THIS DRONE! From the reviews that I have read on here and on other sites, it is a gamble as to whether or not your drone will function properly.

BY FAR THE EASIEST QUAD COPTER TO FLY AND LEARN TO FLY
This is my first quad copter. I am glad I purchased this one instead of anything else. I followed all the instructions that are posted on their you tube videos. My first flight was flawless, and simple. I have had this about 3 months now. It flies perfectly, and the videos are so clear you won't believe it. I tried using the live video feature several times, but it always loses it's connection, so that part is really useless, but the drone flies so easily that you can just look at the drone and guess pretty accurately where the camera is pointed. This is the perfect first time quad copter for someone who had never flown one, as you don't really do anything but choose your altitude, it will maintain it's altitude when you get where you want, just take your hands off the controls, it will hover on it's own. After getting to your chosen height, you just steer it around like a remote controlled car. It will land it's self if you are afraid to try yourself, but just go slow on the down controller and it will go slow on the descent, and just land it. TOO SIMPLE!!! If you are on the fence about this one, go ahead and get it, as it is the easiest thing I have ever tried as far as remote controlled vehicles go.
