The most bang for your buck.
So I'm giving the Bear X Desire XL 5 stars not because I think it's the best pistol crossbow of its class. 5 Stars because it far out preforms anything I've shot for less than $100. I've attached a red dot scope and the accuracy is great. I get 4 to 6" grouping from 60 ft away standing. I bought this to mount a fishing reel and use it for fishing. After using for intended purpose will return to update. You can get broad hunting heads for small game Though I've not used it for such there's no doubt this thing is killing a coyote or smaller. Highly recommend, Not a toy. Keep up with maintenance. Such as keep your strings waxed. Keep screws tight. If you shoot arrows into trees or something hard it will damage the arrow it comes with and they will become compromised. They are cheap so you'll want to buy better quality arrows. Some people have issues with arrows coming apart. Fix this by adding a drop of hot glue into the ends then put back together. Also, you can strengthen arrows by taking them apart and filling them with hot glue. However they will be heavier but this is also good for fishing arrows where you want more weight because this is a 50/60 lb draw. This crossbow is made of plastic though it's a high quality plastic I would not recommend putting a higher lb limb. You can do that with something like the Adder but not this. The one issue I see is I have the stock adjusted all the way out for better leverage of cocking. But imo if there's a break or failure it will be here. That's the weakest part of the crossbow. Hope this helps anyone thinking of purchasing.. Edit: I made the modifications for Bowfishing before the review posted. I have used it and was successful at hitting a fish although was not able to land because I was using the line that came with reel and it snapped on me. Will definitely upgrade Line to try again.

Great value.
Exceeded my expectations! There are many clones of this crossbow model. I opted for this Bear model because it came with 60 lbs. vs. 80 lbs. limbs. For my purpose, the bolt negligible speed difference is inconsequential, and is more than made up buy the gentler cocking force. This crossbow is well made and surprisingly accurate plenty powerful. The only negative I can think of, is that they could have included a few more bolts. P.S. I'll still give it a 5 star, but I have to report that after just a little use, the latch-lever that releases the cocking stock, broke. This defect has been reported as a common problem. I can why, it is a design flaw. Where it gave way, the plastic is very thin, and bound to easily break. I replaced the latch with one I made out of metal.

Prepared for issues and used 7.5” bolts
I read all reviews and took note of the issues, so I added super glue to both bow ends and lightly hammer tapped the ends on. I also turned the crossbow upside down and put super glue on and around the single safety clip screw. I’m hoping all that helps prevent the same issues. I did read it’s ok to use 7.5” bolts witch I did buy see pics length and girth are bigger but fit perfectly. I also got the wax and have waxed the rails and sting. Says to do it every 20 shots. The wax is like chapstick easy to apply to the string I used a quetip for the rails. I have fired the bow 10 times so far to get the scope I added aligned. Shots good and is fun. For me this is potential silent self defense. It is recommended to replace the string every year with normal use and I did have a hard time stringing the bow and may have fraid a tiny bit I’ll have to replace the string eventually there around $10+ keep your stringing string that comes with the bow there about the same price. I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 because the issues I planned for should not exist and instructions should have been more clear. Item was also shipped in its own box sitting out for all to see and was not a strong or protected box at all. Good quality items should be treated as such.

No instructions
My item must've been a used item or return, because there was no instructions in the box whatsoever. I'm really disappointed because I had to go on YouTube and try to piece together and figure out how to put this thing together. After I did get it together. It seems like it's OK. It still is very difficult to use so I'm not sure that this is going to be something we would actually get any usage out of. I'm disappointed as well becauseI need the instructions to be able to make sure that safely. I constructed this correctly for safety reasons. I do not think that this is a crossbow that I'll be able to keep. I need the instructions to be able to make sure that safely. I constructed this correctly for safety reasons. I do not think that this is an crossbow that I'll be able to keep. The quality is decent at best. It doesn't feel heavy duty or high-quality. I'm just overall disappointed.

Not a toy, repeat, not a toy
I bought this crossbow to help eliminate rabbits who have been dining on my wife's garden. It came a little late in the season so I have not had a lot of time with it. However, I would say that it is very accurate and seems durable enough for the price. And wow! it does pack a punch. My first shot was into a bag of soil I had sitting by my shed. Went right through it and into the the shed although it did not stick. However, I was convinced that it would penetrate the rabbit easily should I hit one. I have not seen them yet but would believe there would be different tipped bolts for it. The tips on the bolts that came with it and the extra ones I bought, are pointed but not sharp. Yes, they would penetrate the rabbit which is great but will not stick into wood. Perhaps that it too dangerous. Overall, it works well and is fun. No rabbits were hurt in the review...

Great buy for the value

Nice, but could use better instructions, and stronger parts.
Nice little crossbow. Enough power to knock down some pesky yard varmints, but easy enough to cock. After sighting it in with a dozen shots, I was shooting 3" groups at 50 ft. I'm not too steady, so this is easily achievable by normal folks. Be aware you have to release the trigger safety after it is cocked - use both thumbs to provide gentle even pressure, as the safety mechanism is plastic and appears it could break if pushed too hard from one side only. For the price this is a nice little crossbow. I would have given it 5 stars, but the instructions leave a little to be desired. Search for videos on how to assemble and string this bow and you'll be fine. It's pretty simple, but easy to screw up if you are not familiar with this. Update - after removing the rear sight to snug up the bolt clip, the release lever for cocking the bow broke and will be returning it for replacement under warranty.
