Nearly perfect: Cambridge Mask Co. N99 reusable, adjustable face mask
I tried to be very thorough in my review. It does get a bit long-ish, so I’ve summarized with a Pro/Con list at the end if it’s a case of Too Long; Didn’t Read.First, why I bought this mask.I live in the NE-part of the Bay Area in Northern California. Today is 10 October 2017; wild fires have been burning in this region of NorCal for over two days. At this moment the rate of fire containment is still very low, almost non-existent. The fires in Napa and Sonoma counties have been predicted to last for several days, if not weeks. Thankfully, my family and I (and our house) is safe, as our city isn’t in the direct path. However, our location’s proximity to the various blazes has made for very poor and hazardous air quality. The air quality is quite unhealthy for everyone, but since I have asthma and other respiratory issues, my need to acquire a quality mask was especially paramount.Yesterday when I went to work, I wore a disposable surgical mask but that definitely was not adequate protection for my asthmatic self. As I often do in times of needing a specific item that is outside the norm of a routine shopping errand, today I searched on Amazon for a face mask with a rating of at least N95. I wanted something that would protect me and my family from particulates and the smell of the smoke/haze/polluted air when it was necessary for us to venture outside of the house. Enter the adjustable, N99 rated mask by Cambridge Mask Co. I came across this item on Amazon this morning, was lucky to to find the masks could be shipped & delivered the same day (10th of October), placed my order, and by evening the masks were delivered to my doorstep. I immediately tried on the one I selected for myself and was instantly able to experience the difference of breathing easier and the much higher level of clean air/filtration versus a basic surgical mask. Even once these fires have gone out and the smoke have clears, I know I will use this mask during allergy/flu season. The outside is a soft cloth material, and with three layers of filters the mask does have a bit of weight to it while you’re wearing it, although that bit of weight isn’t uncomfortable* while wearing. Stepping outside the house to really test the mask, I was able to breathe easily with clean-smelling air despite the continued presence of haze and smoke traveling with the wind to my city. I do like the different color options (I selected “The Duke” for myself), so in that regard there is something that should suit anyone’s style. The construction of the mask is quite sturdy and although I haven’t washed it yet, I believe that with gentle hand washing with warm water, soap, and drip drying, the mask should last for the stated amount of time. Do note that this mask (while washable/reusable) will eventually need to be thrown out and bought anew after their recommended average use (~200 hours) since the internal filters cannot be replaced.A note on fitting, and this is where my few cons come in. Based on the company’s sizing suggestions, I would have been able to fit a Medium sized mask, but after having read reviews, I selected the Large for myself. While using one’s weight to determine mask size seems an accurate idea, in practice the many variations in face shapes turns the size selection process into a bit of a gamble. If you’re able to buy these masks in less time-sensitive circumstances (unlike in my case where I really required a N95+ mask ASAP), I would try to buy two sizes if you’re unsure and return or pass along to someone else the size that didn’t fit you.The two adjustable elastic straps on the lower edges of the mask can make for a snug seal, so if you chose to only buy one and size up, I think most people would be fine. I believe the fit would actually be more comfortable and easier to adjust for those in-between sizes if the ear loops were either A) thinner and slightly longer; or B) that the company ditched the ear loops completely and designed a mask with two loops that wrapped completely around the back of your head (one loop each above/below your ears, as I think this would provide the most secure fit and seal). As the ear loops are now, they seem a tad too thick and they will pull the top tips of your ears slightly down and outward. With some adjusting of the positioning of the loops behind the top of my ears, I was able to make it work for me, but this may not be ideal or comfortable for other people. The situation with the ear loops isn’t as comfortable as the same ear loops design a disposable surgical mask utilizes, although with the Cambridge mask it is bearable. I’ve worn the mask inside the house for about 4 hours already (on and off as needed to eat, brush teeth, and such) and while you’re wearing it you “feel” the mask the most at the back of your ears. If Cambridge would redesign the ear loops, or at least add the option of a mask with two wrap-around style straps, I truly believe they will have achieved the best everyday washable/reusable N99 respirator face mask available today.TL;DRPros:-Washable/Reusable; easy maintenance-Relatively long shelf-life (mine was labeled best until 2022; obviously replace the entire mask based on the company’s usage guidelines which are noted in the included user manual)-N99 rating: harmful particulates are filtered away as you breathe with this mask; the difference in air quality/smell is immediately apparent versus a basic surgical mask, or no mask at all-Respirator valve keeps the inside of the mask relatively cooler than a mask without one-Easy to breathe in and out through nose or mouth; can take deep breaths if you want-Adjustable elastics at the edges of the mask for a snug fit-Variety of colors/styles to choose from-Variety of sizes** for the entire family-Very fast shipping and delivery (thank you Amazon!)Cons:-Ear loops are a tad too thick and will give you “elf ears,” although with a bit of adjustment, can be made to create a secure and snug fit (I really hope this company reads the reviews because two loops that wrap around your head would be the best!)- *With the above being said, this will not be the most comfortable mask for everyone-May not be comfortable if worn with thick-framed glasses/sunglasses-If wearing glasses/sunglasses, they may fog up while wearing this mask; tinkering around with the positioning of both may resolve this issue-Pricey; this mask works for my needs and I can find uses for it once the fires are out and the air clears (such as during allergy season), but not everyone will want to shell out about $30 USD for one (reusable) respirator mask when they can probably buy multiple single-use disposable respirator masks at a lower price- **Sizes can be difficult to determine via weight ranges; I personally advise to read reviews or convert the company’s provided units from Metric to Imperial if you’re from the U.S. or if you’re willing to buy two masks and return/pass on the mask that doesn’t fit

SCAM
I have strong doubts as to whether or not this is an authentic product. I already had a bad feeling when I saw the mask arrive in a very obviously dented box. On the Cambridge Mask official website, they inform buyers of a way to verify the authenticity of a given mask by scanning its QR code. When I looked at my box, it seems as though it had previously been opened, given that the little sticker with the code number on it was split in half along the box's opening. Then, when I scanned the QR code and input the code number, the website informed me that this code does not exist and my product is probably counterfeit.

Poor quality, poor performance
I purchased two of these Cambridge masks because I thought the adjustable chin would be extremely useful, as my regular go-to mask, the Respro allergy mask, is too loose under the chin. On one of the Cambridge masks, the adjustment cord was not secured properly and slid out of the ear strap, so it was immediately returned. The second one has a twisted ear strap, which is a bit uncomfortable, but I needed a new mask so I figured I'd just get used to it, and I did. Quality aside, the adjustable chin runs through the ear straps, too, which makes tightening the chin without pulling the ears forward quite tricky. Separate adjusters for ears and chin would have made for a far easier adjustment. During wear, the adjustment toggles loosened, allowing gaps where outside air could get in, completely defeating the purpose of the mask. Furthermore, the metal nose adjuster is too flimsy and also tends to loosen during wear, contributing to air gaps. I've worn it several times in the past few weeks. Unfortunately, it has not protected me and I've had a number of unpleasant reactions. I really wanted to like the Cambridge masks, but their only redeeming quality is the choice of colors/patterns. Pretty will not protect me so I will be going back to the Respro allergy mask and deal with the inconvenience of altering the chin and scaring little children.

If not for the wide ear band, this would be great.
This would be great if the part that goes behind the ear was not so wide. As is it, that part is so wide that it makes my ears turn down. It's not to tight, because it does it when I have it on one ear only. If they could make that about 1/3 the size, it would be awesome. But as it is, I probably won't be buying more. I was hopeful and very disappointed. I am hopeful they will make that little change and then they will have a great product.

Smokey Home and Smoggy Travel- Clean Air Wherever You Go!
I bought these for my husband and I at the height of the fire season during our the first month of our move to Montana (what a smokey welcome). I got over the stigma of wearing a weird mask (actually mine was this cute Cambridge pattern) and so wore mine all the time when I rode my bike to work and walking around the town and found I could actually tolerate the smoke. My husband wore his occasionally but opted just not to leave the house or to tough it out "man" style and then complain about the smoke (also "man" style?!). I would definitely buy this again (though in the EXTRA large as the real measurement should be from the top of the nose to the bottom of the chin and mine just barely fit with a large). I would also travel with these as I have spent time in other places, Beijing and LA being two very smoggy places that come to mind, and it would be nice to breath easy even if it was just for a walk or two.

A Great Product
I ordered as I have an impaired immune system and am hopeful that this mask will be valuable in keeping such bugs as cold and flu viruses at arms length. I purchased the larger mask initially as for an adult, but was wondering if a medium mask would be a better fit, which it wasn't, with the straps pulling on my ears. So returned to Amazon with no problem and kept the large mask. The designs for all the masks are great and the technology behind them is excellent. This product will enable me also to relax when flying, instead of worrying about what's circulating around the interior of the aircraft. I have found the Cambridge Mask Customer Care Service to be also excellent and most helpful at all times. I feel confident in being able to recommend this product to all who wish to keep all manner of stuff, which can be taken in via the respiratory system, out of their bodies. Have to say, however, that it takes a little time to get ones self use to wearing the mask in public areas. But this feeling will hopefully pass in time.

Quality product at a good price
Bought it for a trip to Ulaanbataar later this year with a return in February. In winter it is reputed to have smog problems to rival Beijing (or worse). Not used it yet as I'm still at home. But first impressions are very positive.Order arrived on schedule. Nicely packaged in its own tin box. Instructions very clear and in multiple languages.Comfortable snug fit behind my ears, which as a spectacle wearer was a slight worry. And my specs didn't fog up when wearing it - well, only slightly and I guess when I get used to wearing it that problem will dissipate.Easy to get a good seal all round the edge of the mask. I'm confident it will perform well. Very comfortable to wear.I bought it for functional reasons and the fabric pattern wasn't a major consideration. That said, they have a good range and the Newton is a little ray of brightness!Much better price than its nearest rival Vogmask and research implied it doesn't seem like the VM offers more for the money so buying this was a no-brainerFinally, Made In England - a bonus reason for buying this. Well pleased. After placing the order I received a very pleasant customer service email from James, head of e-commerce at the company, which read "If there is any problem with the order or you have any questions regarding the mask, please let us know right away and we'll do what we can to make it right. You can also simply reply to this email." A very nice touch.. They deserve to succeed

Cambridge Mask Co Pro N99 Anti Pollution Mask
I had very high hopes for this as I'm sick of being poisoned by the toxic and polluted air on Euston Road in London. The quality of the material and presentation of the product is excellent. However, the application of the product is really poor. The straps wrap around your ears producing a 'dumbo' effect. (Before anyone says anything, yes I got the right sized mask). Also, the mask makes it look like you are part of a militia group with untoward intentions. I bought this darker option as I thought it would be more discreet in comparison to the white doctor's mask, which so many Japanese tourists wear. Upon reflection, I think white is a better option as it's more obvious why you're wearing it.There are other brands out there, where the strap goes around the head rather than the ears. My advice is to go for one of those options.

Good value & effective
They seem to have sorted out the design issues of the previous models. This allows for tightening which helps. The technology is meant to be one of the best out there. From my calculations based on their guide - I cycle about 5 days a week to & from the office in London (each ride is 40 mins) - the mask should last me about 6 months. This is far cheaper overall that the alternative more famous brands out there. You can't smell most exhausts & smells but strangely, people smoking as you cycle by comes through! The only complaint is it can get very wet with humidity especially in summer, at which point, it is nearly impossible to breathe & you have to take it off. I then dry it in the office & at home before using it again. I wish they would sort out this ventilation issue

Incredibly uncomfortable, slices your ears off!
Unfortunately this mask was such a big disappointment. It was incredibly uncomfortable and pulled my ears forward the moment I put it on. I adjusted it so that it was as loose as possible but still pulled them forward. My ears don't stick out but I fear that if I wear this mask any longer, I'll either end up looking like Dumbo or having my ears sliced off. I went with the guided sizing but either this is completely wrong or the product is designed badly. I reckon the latter. How can you create a tight seal on a mask which hooks around the ears without it dragging them forward or cutting into them? I will now search for a good mask which fastens around the back. I would like to keep my ears, thanks.

Broken after first use
The valve is broken just after first day use. The silicone valve is now open and the whole mask became pointless. Really disappointed.
