☺Better than any LED counterpart could ever be.☺
I really appreciate the reliability of this tried and true incancescent design. LED night lights that are supposed to take the place of this are dismal failures. The LED night lights currently availble catastrophically fail in a short period of time and their overly simplistic light sensing circuits cause flickers and dim illumination in situations where full light output is needed. This little light has a clear plastic lining behind the perforated metal shade. The shade does not get hot. Strangely, though, the switch works backward. In the USA, usually, convention dictates that a flick to the right turns a device on while a flick to the left usually turns it off. This one is backward. You flick the switch to the left to turn it on. Oh well. No big deal. I leave it on all the time anyway. For these lights, you can get 4-watt bulbs or 7-watt bulbs. You can get clear glass bulbs or you can get frosted white bulbs. You can even get GE Reveal bulbs that add a blue hue to the underlying yellow of tungsten generated light. How's that for options? One thing you know for sure, when the bulb burns out, you can put in a new one that costs about 50¢ and you're good for another several years. You then have no flickers from failing ambient light detection circuitry. You have no pale, weak, bluish hued glare from an undersized LED. With this GE Metal Shade incandescent night light, you have just warm, inviting, reassuring, widespread illumination that gets you through the night.☺

Because the shade doesn't swivel, this light might fit horizontal in your socket rather than vertical.
This night light is very attractive, but the metal shade blocks a lot of light, so it isn't very bright. I like that it has an on-off switch, rather than an auto-sensor, because I prefer the LED due to energy efficiency and bulb life, but LED bulbs tend to flicker annoyingly when there is an auto-sensor. I really wish that the shade would swivel. Because of the polarized plug, the light only plugs one way into the socket, and unfortunately for me the shade is then horizontal rather than vertical, which looks a little funny. Nice light if your sockets are installed vertical rather than horizontal, and if you don't want a lot of light. The price was good for the quality.

Perfect! Looks just like the picture.
I bought this for midnight feedings after my daughter was born, and I am so happy I selected this one! It provides the perfect amount of light so that I can sleepily find my way around the house, without it keeping anyone awake. We use it in the living/family room and it goes with our decor beautifully. Not childish or "cutesy" at all. It looks like it may have the potential to get hot, but I assure you it doesn't. I leave it on all night and all day (when I forget), and it is not hot to the touch. The shade is metal on the outside and a hard plastic inside facing the bulb. The base and switch are plastic as well. Love it!

Perfect bathroom nightlight
Cute little night light to keep in the kids bathroom at night. I will say for only having it over a month it has run through 2 (2000 hour) night light bulbs already. Other than that it's functional and cute and I like the amount of light it lets off, enough so that my kids don't have to turn the actual light on when they use the restroom, but definitely too much light for their bedroom. They had a heck of a time getting settled down and to sleep when I had this in their room but once I switched it out we've had no issues.

Really pretty!
Bought this to replace the generic white one in my master bathroom. I love the pierced metal looking shade. It looks so much nicer than a plain plastic light. It looks like it would get hot to the touch but it stays nice and cool. I LOVE the on/off switch. I never liked the motion sensor or dawn/dusk ones. I like being able to turn a light on or off as I need. This provides just enough light if needed during the night without being blinded. Great buy!

Does not last long
I love the design and light this lamp gives, but it only lasted for less than 5months. I bought the lamp for lo and I really liked that it has an on/off button; however, after less than 5months of using it at night only, it stopped working. I thought it was the bulb so I replaced it, but nope, it just stopped working.

Perfect with a baby! Thanks for feedback
I asked for feedback about the brightness of this light for use in my bedroom with a baby. Baby sleeps in playpen beside bed and I breastfeed so I need light to check in him and feed. We had been just keeping a lamp on all night but we weren't sleeping very well. People said yes it would be just right and so I trusted their feedback. I ordered and upon delivery I was very surprise at the size. It was smaller than expected and smaller than two night lights I had bought from the store and returned which were not right enough. I felt like a fool for thinking strangers could possibly know how much light I needed, for not checking the size, and for not realizing I could've just tried other bulbs in the last two I bought. Then I plugged it in during the day in a dark room and thought no way this will work. Then nighttime came and it was perfect!!! I'm so thankful for those that have me feedback! We don't have it behind any furniture to block the light and it is perfect. The light is enough to see baby sleeping and breathing. It's on the other side of the nightstand so it doesn't bother us. But where she sleeps lower to the ground than a crib and in direct path of the light maybe seven feet away, it's perfect and not to bright yet lights the entire room. Did I mention it's perfect. If using for the same reason then give it a try. Better than a lamp an cheaper than those fancy night lights. Thanks a million for those who helped me!!!

Sort of a Dim Bulb
I purchased this night light for my closet in my new home in the basement. The light fixture that is there in the ceiling does not work and the prior owners said that a night light works well for that tiny closet. I should have realized that a 4 watt bulb would not shed a lot of light but somehow I thought it would be a bit more. I have other night lights that shed a whole lot more than this one. I'm not sure if it is just the low wattage or if it is somehow the shade. The shade is metal with perforations in a pretty flower pattern. This is a simply but yet elegant design and overall, I think the light is pretty. However, I am disappointed int he amount of light it emits. The shade is metal and so I think that the light should be durable. If I had to do it over again though, I think I would choose something else.
