Cuts well, very sharp!
We eat a lot of salmon and it's so difficult to get that awful gray skin off! This knife helps a lot. Very sharp and an accurate cut. Glad I got it! Great packaging too !

Surprisingly good!
Itβs salmon season again! And as such I tend to go thru fillet knives. Let me first say I bought this knife to give to a nephew that was just starting salmon fishing. Brightly colored and inexpensive I figured he would like it.Typically in a fillet knife there are three key things I look for. 1. Long slender blade 2. Flexible blade 3. Edge retention. 2 and 3 are usually a trade off. A flexible blade generally has poor edge retention and a harder blade very flexible. The Calamus fillet knife is a bit on the stiff side but for large fish it works wonderfully for cutting the fillets off the fish. The pink salmon are thick this year so I typically have to fillet 20 fish each day. The bones on that amount of fish will dull a knife quickly. The Calamus was able to handle this generally without a touch up on the blade. I think it is a bit too stiff to use for trimming out the belly bones but for filleting a lot of fish fast this is now my go to knife. I gave my old knife to my nephew! ππ

Has great flexibility
I really like the flexibility if the blade and the plastic sleeve locks on

My initial trial
Really impressed with how efficiently I was able to filet my latest catch of channel catfish. Knife feels well balanced in hand and is super sharp. Comes with a nice protective sheath which it should be kept in when not in use. The 9 inch size proved perfect for the job. Versatile blade did well on both small nd large fish.
