Don’t waste your money! My son received this as a gift, we followed the directions which aren’t clear and missing some steps (like when you’re supposed to add the rocks) and it didn’t work. My husband and I both read the directions several times and it was still confusing! We even tried to search for videos for help and still couldn’t get clarification.We started with the frosty diamond, and the pictures are what they turned out as after waiting 2 weeks.! All I had was a disappointed child that wanted to grow his own crystals like Superman.I reached out to customer service for FAO Schwarz and never got a response back from them regarding this horrible product. Very disappointed from such a well known company. Won’t buy anything from them ever again!

The kit includes a bag of rocks, but the instructions never give a reason for these rocks. We did not use them in the process, and maybe that made the difference. The crystals that did grow were very small and not nearly the size shown on the box and instructions. It was fun to go through the process, but the end result was very disappointing especially for my daughter who expected what was on the box.

Instructions are lacking. Did this project with my patient 7 year old. We had no significant prior knowledge of crystal growing, so the presence of stones was of unclear significance. We tried the large crystal bag first and it failed spectacularly. After some brief research, we made some changes and the second (smaller, shaggy) crystal bag went fine. Here are the changes we made: 1) we washed and fully dried the rocks (they completely fail to tell you what the rocks are for) and 2) after we did the remaining steps as described, we placed the molds on a mantel in a draft free place.
