Sold in an ikea store for $6.99. why is amazon more than double the price.

I don't think we will get an answer from Amazon on this but I agree with you and thank you for pointing this out. Not acceptable.

Is this comfortable when placed on your lap? Does it press into your thighs especially with a heavy laptop?

I was not really sure what I was getting but I tell you I have been very happy with this stand. I also have a big laptop and it is also heavy , I like to sit up in my bed with legs stretched out and this stand rest on my belly and the lower part on my legs and it is very comfortable. If you look at the pictures you can see were the two ends that make contact with your body are rounded and turned up so it makes it smooth and not a sharp edge . This is a very simple design that works well ,like I said I have been very pleased with it . sometimes I may have sitting in my lap for 2 hours at a time . Hope this helps you .
