One of the most popular European classic comic strips of all time tells stories of the heroic escapades of youthful reporter Tintin and his loyal canine companion Snowy. From a comic that first appeared in 1929 by Belgian artist Herge, these delightful adventures were spun into books, magazines, TV series, radio programs and theater productions. The television series The Adventures Of Tintin (1991 1993) follows Tintin and Snowy in solving mysteries closely related to the much-loved original stories. A colorful cast of characters is along for the ride, including the salty Captain Haddock, handy Professor Calculus and clumsy Thomson & Thompson. Exploring the globe, solving mysteries and searching for truth and justice, Tintin and crew inspire the adventurer in all of us! Now featured in a major motion picture that intertwines elements of two episodes included here (The Secret Of The Unicorn and Red Rackham's Treasure), the complete first season of the award-winning series is now available for your enjoyment on DVD for the first time! Review: A great adventure cartonn series for kids as well as adults. - My dad is a French professor. Growing up in the house, my siblings and I were exposed to many foreign things, both from my mom, who is Japanese, and my dad liked to share French culture with us. In particular he shared the French comic/cartoon stories of Asterix and Tintin. Growing up these two series of cmics and cartoons really inspired my imagination and brought me a lot of enjoyment. To focus on Tintin, in particular, the comics were available at the local library, and I used to always borrow them when they were available. In addition, my dad used to read these comics to me and my younger siblings frequently at night before we went to bed, these are some of the fondest memories from my childhood. Later on, we were able to get our hands on some of the video casettes of the cartoon series, based off the Tintin comic books. This review, is for the First Season of these cartoons, now on DVD. For those not familiar with the Tintin stories, I will give as short summary of the background and characters. Tintin, the protaganist and main character, is a reporter, whose investigative journalism ussually gets him wrapped up in all kinds of adventures and peril. Accompanying him on these journeys, is his pet and petite white dog, Snowy, who oftens ends up rescuing his master despite his small demeneor. Along the way, Tintin and Snowy, meet up with Captain Haddock, an alcoholic(recovering alcholic) merchant marine boat's captain, who ends up becoming an heir to an immense fortune, and ends up being Tintin's companion, and patron of sorts, on numerous adventures. There are two bumbling police detectives ,Thompson and Thomson, who are identical twins, and always end up crossing paths with our adventurers in one way or the other. Lastly, there is Professor Cuthbert Calculus, and eccentric scientific genius, who is very hard of hearing. Tintin and copmany find themselves on adventures, or solving mysteries all accross the world. Set in the 1920's to the 1960s, these stories include themes and issues present to the time, whether it be, imperialism, drug smuggling, espionage, and even space exploration. This first season sets includes the stories "The Cigars of the Pharoah", "The Blue Lotus", "The Black Island","The Calculus Affair", "Secret of the Unicorn", and "Red Rackham's Treasure". All but "Red Rackham's Treasure" are two part espisodes. This first collection of episodes introduces you to all main characters, and all the stories are incredibly enjoyable. I hope that in lieu, of the recent Spielberg "Tintin" film, interest in this series has exploded. My kid's were introduced to Tintin, through this film, and now they love the cartoons and the comics. This series is a really good series for the family, young and old can enjoy the stories and the characters. I am really happy to be able to enjoy this series with my kids, and I am glad that Tintin has done for them, what it did for me when I was younger. Review: Great find, at a great price! - I have loved this cartoon ever since I was a kid watching the 1960's version on tv. This was a great find and the price was more than reasonable!😍

Tintin's Adventures, for Home Viewing...
Nicely timed with the big screen production of "The Adventures of Tintin" is the release on DVD of this early 1990's television adaptation of Tintin. Season One contains seven of the original Tintin adventures, including "The Secret of the Unicorn", "Red Rackham's Treasure, and "The Crab with the Golden Claws", elements of which were woven into the plot for the movie. Season One also includes "The Cigars of the Pharoah", "The Blue Lotus", "The Black Island", and "The Calculus Affair". All but "Red Rackham's Treasure" have two parts, each about 20 minutes long. The comic characters Tintin, his faithful dog Snowy, and friends Captain Haddock, Professor Calculus, and the Detectives Thompson and Thomson are well-known in Europe, thanks to a series of graphic novels that have been in print for decades. This DVD set is a nice capture of the original stories. The animation style closely mimics Belgian artist Herge's distinctive art style, while the plots have only minor alterations from Herge's originals. The voice actors for the DVD set were British, but this should not pose a distraction for viewers. Tintin's boy scout ethics and sense of adventure are TV-safe. "The Adventures of Tintin: Season One" is very highly recommended to fans of Tintin, especially those who might be lookng to introduce Tintin to their children who are too young for the movie. Release of Season Two is due later in 2012.

Great Series Finally Available on Amazon
These cartoons are based on the books I loved reading in grammar school. The voice acting is great, the animation is decent, better than I expected. I am so happy to finally see these great European animated series available for sale from Amazon or anywhere stateside. Please release seasons 2 and 3, we really can't wait.

Great adaptations from the books
My childhood hero is brought to the screen. The stories have been adapted to fit into 30 minute or less features without altering the original plot too much. These videos will not take place of the books, but it is a great way to get your children excited about reading the graphic novels before bed time.

Just as good as I remember it!
I watched this show in reruns on Nickelodeon years ago, before I ever read the comic books, and if I thought the cartoon would seem different after several years and after reading all of Tintin's adventures, I was wrong. It's as close to watching the characters in the books coming to life in full color as you'll ever see. I enjoyed the new motion-capture Tintin movie as well, but on a different level, and as that's a different story borrowing liberally from several different Tintin adventures (all included in this set), you can freely watch all these episodes without spoiling the movie for yourself. Can't wait for the "Season Two" set to drop in price, as it nears the release date!

Perfect gift!
These books are so sturdy!! I was afraid they were going to be like comic book paper, but they are strong and will last for a long time!

Our children love watching TinTin and now we have the entire set. There are a lot of episodes on this set compared to other children's DVDs, which are often quite short. It is definitely a good value.

Although created years ago, our 8 year old nephew was totally engaged with the stories. Well worth purchasing these classics.
