Not reliable
When it's working it's good but it continually overheats and shuts off. It's so hot ypu can't touch it. It records for about 5 minutes and then shuts off for 5 to 10 minutes until it is cool again then it turns back on and records some more. It spens more time shut off than it does on and recording. Ypu can't rely on it to be on and recording when something happens. Also the suction cup mount broke the first time I tried to mount it. Overall garbage don't waste your money. If I could give it a negative 5 stars I would.

Seemingly good build quality negated by major design flaw!
Build Quality seems slightly better than similar styled versions of this device (for example, the "BlackBox" Brand) On BlackBox version, if you looked in the mounting slot hole, you could see the circuit board inside. On this COBY version, if you look inside mounting slot hole, you see a silver colored backing blocking the mounting hole from connecting to the inside, where the electronics are. I got the COBY version after I had to return the 'BlackBox' style copy of this camera. The 'BlackBox' version was defective in that it did NOT consistently record video files (only recorded for a few seconds, then stopped. A minute later, it MIGHT start recording again for a few more seconds. Menu settings made no difference) Returned the defective 'BlackBox' one, and got this model COBY instead. Unfortunately, major COBY design flaw revealed itself immediately! Device would NOT TURN ON, and thereby NOT FUNCTION, even when connected to live power source. It would NOT work for well over an hour, until the UNREPLACEABLE internal battery was finally fully charged. THEN the device worked (except for another defect I'll describe later) Most people might shrug this off, and blythly continue using the camera... until it stops working probably only a few months later. (many of the negative reviews for 'clone' like copies of this design dashcam complained it died in a few months) Here is probably why: any RECHARGABLE battery will eventually FAIL. The UNREPLACEABLE internal battery in this camera, when fully charged, powered camera for only 5+ minutes ! ! (did several trials) When this weak to start with battery no longer holds a charge, the device will stop working, even though connected to power. The other defect in the camera I recieved, was in the menu choice where you are supposed to be able to enter your cars license number and have it displayed in the video (like with the date and time) This menu would ONLY let you change first digit, then would kick you out of the menu... so all you'd get if you activated 'display license' was: AAAAAA I'm sending it back to Amazon for refund!

I either have a bad camera or the instructions are wrong
I don't ( know a lot about cameras but I know how to read and follow directions. The directions says press the M button to enter the setup mode. I either have a bad camera or the instructions are wrong. I have eventually pressed every button on the camera and in every combination and I have yet to see a setup mode. Pressing the M only turns the voice on and off, nothing else. The mode button does absolutely nothing. It will zoom in and out but that is the extent of operations. So, without being able to set the time, date and other features it is no good to me. Looks like I will be sending this one back.
