The definite 2020 review. Definite. Yes.
Welcome, to the much needed updated review for this Alan partridge complete box set 2020. It arrived, via a very pleasent women with a slight moustache. I ws going to invite her in for a beverage and a shave but it just seemed rude. Anyhow, I digress. I received the box, damage free. Inside, the solid feel of some lovely plastic surrounded by a slightly average, yet lovely to feel wood style surround. Very pleasent. The discs went into my denon dvd player (Google it.. You'll want the cheaper version) with the same velocity as a relaxed badger. Lovely stuff..Overall. 8 on 10. Apro po achieving a good moderate, and respectful score. Do I recommend this purchase? Yes. Yes I do.

Painfully funny!
Steve Coogan's Alan Partridge character is excellent. At times purely hilarious, in a farcical manner, and at times horribly embarrassing, or even crushingly sad, Partridge is a well observed character, operating in a believable and recognisable contemporary world. We can find him occasionally likeable, or even sympathetic, or suddenly appallingly gauche, his egocentric self-image playing a massive role in this volatile chemistry.Series one is okay, but has aged the least impressively. Series two and three are classics, and see the character and presentation maturing. There are also sundry specials and extras, some of which feel like padding, others of which are great (e.g. his country walks and talks in East Anglia - being an East Anglian myself I also like the local connections!).There are some incredibly funny moments - his air-bass routine in his trailer-home, or, literally painfully funny, as when he tries to deliver a speech after having skewered his foot on a railing - but overall it's not so much side-splitting larf-a-minute stuff, as a more simmering character and situation driven affair. As well as being very funny, it can be very sad, poignant even. In some respects this is a very modern somewhat dark style of comedy (although already - like Partridge himself - rapidly ageing), but in others it has longer deeper roots. Partridge's tragicomic attempts to maintain his dignity in the face of adversity could be traced back to such antecedent bumblers as Peter Sellers' Clousseau, for example.Definitely we generally laugh at these characters for the pricking of their pomposity, and at their expense. But we also recognise enough of ourselves and general humanity for it to be tinged with pain and melancholy. Clever and funny. Great if somewhat uneven. Originally I gave this set just four stars. But having watched it numerous times now, and got a lot of pleasure from it, it now gets the full five; after all, I do love it.And at only £10 for the complete TV series - what I paid, roughly, and still the price at the time of leaving this review - it's very good value.

Comic genius!
We bought this set for our son who is an avid Partridge fan and he loved it. The words 'comic genius' are often bandied about, often wrongly, but when it comes to Steve Coogan, they are most definitely very apt. His characterisation of the hapless Alan is truly remarkable and will surely be long regarded as classic British comedy. At times he drives you to dispair and frustrates you with his attitude while at other times you feel immense sympathy towards him. Mr Partridge is most certainly arrogant and rude but it is his frequent failures that make him so endearing. He is ably supported by an equally brilliant cast, I particularly love the loyal and long suffering Lynn his P.A. No matter how many times you watch these DVDs you will always find something to laugh about. Coming from Norwich, I suppose I have soft spot for Alan as he is such an iconic figure in these parts. This is a must buy to have in your collection as it provides hours of great entertainment.

A-HA!
I asked for this for Christmas but literally no one bought it for me. It was on my amazon wish list and everything. I took matters into my own hands and have never looked back. I found there to be many naysayers out there; "it's all on Netflix!" and, "it's on GOLD every bloody day" they all cry. I just love being able to watch Alan anytime I like regardless of broadband speed. In short, yes, you too should purchase this.

Marvellous comedy, annoying DVD presentation
No doubt about it --- Alan Partridge is a high point of British TV comedy, and this set is a must have.Whoever designed the content navigation pages showed some wit, but it quickly becomes annoying to remember how to get to play the content. There was a fashion for this, as if adding a game and puzzle element to the menu pages gave an extra entertainment bonus. In reality it was a self-indulgent distraction.

Inspired
I remember watching Steve Coogan launch "Knowing Me, Knowing You" on the telly and thinking this was truly inspired comedy. I liked Steve Coogan's choice of actors/actresses. It was a great series and his tongue in cheek "I'm Alan Partridge" is not as good but great amusing relaxation. This is a great value box set. I am proud to add it to my collection. There are many, many comic moments but the deliberately awkward political debate in "Knowing Me, Knowing You" is probably my favourite.I rate this as five stars in terms of value for money

Classic British comedy
Some of Steve Coogan's finest work ever. No question. However, for me the extras included are somewhat dissapointing for what is billed as a 'Complete Collection'. If you're a fan of 90's British comedy, then you'll love this.

underrated one of the best comedies EVER !!!
i have seen all of the "I'm alan partridge" series on tv i decided to give this a purchase because i loved them and can easily watch over and over again. i was aware of the "knowing me knowing you" dvd that came with it but truly wasn't to fussed about watching it in a hurry as i thought i wouldn't be that interested in watching a chat show dvd, however i like watching things in order and knew the series where about him trying to get a second series of this show. i must say i never stopped laughing through the whole series and still have not seen the christmas special on disk 2 ! HIGHLY recommend this to not just alan partridge fans but any fan of british comedy. alan partridge is one of the best british comedy characters ever created !
