Good product, should have come with a manual though
I am fairly tech savvy so the lack of a manual was not too much of a hindrance, but I still wound up having to call their tech support line to get it set up. The tech was very friendly and helpful, and within 20 minutes we had my Internet connection up and running (including hold time), so no real complaints there. The device performs as advertised, and puts out great wifi signals at both 2.4 and 5.0 ghz. We run two smart TVs, a Ring doorbell, an Alexa, two laptops, 2-3 cellphones at any given moment, and someone is streaming most evenings and I have yet to notice any issues with signal quality. It is as good as my Comcast/Xfinity cable modem and saves me $14/month that I do not have to pay the cable company to rent theirs. I would buy again and recommend to others (just please make sure you include the manual next time!).

used or not, this is a great value.
this product is super easy to use. the whole issue with connecting with a carrier is the carrier does not have your serial number - mac address of the modem. So, unless you tell Comcast or other carriers that you need to give them your mac address, for your own customer owned modem it will not be recognized with comcast or any other carrier. let it integrate into comcast's system so the carrier can recognize this unit. Then you need to get the BILLING department to xo your rental modem and ACITVATE your customer owned modem. this is why you hear the horror stories of why the modems cannot be activated. Don't be discouraged by the used part of this. These modems can work for years and years without an issue.

Easy Setup. No problems with Puma chipset.
2/1/21 Update: I'm on my second refurb unit and the problem is the modem keeps disconnecting. MDD timeout happens every minute, probably because SINR and dbmV are too low. I'm certain the two refurb units are defective because my old modem works just fine with signals well within parameters and connection stable. Thank goodness for Amazon Prime return policy. Stick with buying a new one and not a refurb! So far so good for this refurb unit. Connectivity is a big improvement over my older surfboard SBG-6782. This newer 7400ac has more channels, appears more stable and responsive, and was easy to set up with Comcast/x-finity. I can’t comment on the Wi-Fi performance because I use a separate Ruckus R610 WAP which outperforms any combo router/modem/ap in my opinion. Programming was simple and standard for any Arris router/modem. Program your LAN IP address, set port firewall/port forwarding for your surveillance NVR, initiate modem online with Comcast, and I was all set and running after about 20mins. The only issue i had was slow speeds initially. That’s because the modem failed to update its firmware on the first attempt. Comcast updated the firmware remotely and my speeds are now consistently over 100Mbps. Very happy with this budget refurb unit, but it’s only been running for a week. Hope reliability is good and will update this review.

Surfboard works well with Xfinity/Comcast
I bought this to replace a netgear CM500 that wouldn't hand out IP addresses when I tried to change routers or use my computer to directly connect to the modem, as well as upgrading my Wi-Fi router (previous replacement Wi-Fi router also failed to obtain an IP address) which was getting old in the tooth. I decided since those solutions did not work, I wanted to go with a Modem-Router Combo. Surfboards have a good reputation of working on xfinity connections, going back to the days where Surfboard brand was Motorola owned. My connections on my iPhone 16 Pro prior up upgrading - I was getting 16mbps - My former router was only capable of operating on 2.4ghz. Upgrading to the Surfboard - I am getting 360mbps when conducting speed tests! Quite the improvement! Specs: I like the fact that this router came with four 1GB LAN ports. My previous WiFi router marketed itself as a 450Mbps capable router, but it only had 100mbps LAN ports and Internet(WAN) Ports, which significantly limit your speed throughput. With 1GB ports for both Internet(WAN) and for LAN (Local connections), you are assured that you are getting close to the theoretical speeds that you are paying for. 802.11ac - Supports 2.4ghz and 5ghz - In Layperson's terms, supports Wifi-5! - which allows for faster WiFi Speeds for devices that support it. Setup: Setup was pretty easy. I didn't download the app, I did it by IP address of the router and logged in using the default username/password for Arris Surfboards along with using the xfinity App to set up my connection. The HMAC was registered and after downloading updates and rebooting, it was ready to go. I liked that the surfboard allows me to change the SSID(s) names. I have a lot of smart devices that had my previous SSID and going around changing each SSID to the SSID that arris provided would have been a headache. Glad we avoided that! Customization One thing I do not like is that the SSIDs for 2.4ghz, and 5ghz are separate. To most, this wouldn't be an issue, but as an IT professional, I would have preferred if they provided band steering ( Band Steering allows the connected device to choose the best available band 2.4ghz/ or 5ghz and less interference if the device supports it). My smart devices support 2.4ghz only but I have some devices such as an iPhone and other devices of friends and family that have previously connected to the same SSID. It's a slight inconvenience to have to tell them to use the 5G one name instead for better speeds. This is not a big knock. I do have an available access point I can use to allow better customization. The firewall and other features are pretty basic. It's okay. Its not an enterprise router meant for small businesses. Its a home router, and most will not look into customizing those options. Condition/ Quality of a refurbished unit. This is not my first refurbished unit from Amazon. When it comes to Routers, I'm comfortable with taking the chance to buy one at almost half the price. First off, routers just sit there. Its very unlikely that they're going to be banged up or in a rough condition, especially after its inspected by Amazon. You lose the chance at 2 year Warranty purchasing a refurb, but you save a significant cost and in my opinion, It's not very likely that the router will fail. My router practically looks brand new. No regrets with going with refurb. Time will tell if it lasts but I'm not too worried.

Good savings
I have been using the router for a year and there has been no issue whatsoever. Strongly recommended. This also helped saving some bucks with the telecom provider.
