Trader Joe's Dark Morello Cherries in Light Syrup

These cherries are a key ingredient in the Triple Cherry Pie recipe on Epicurious. If you can't run down to your neighborhood Trader Joe's, it's nice to know you can get these on-line.

I used these cherries for a Black Forest gateau. For 13.00, there were not very many in the jar. They were very deficient in taste. One would be hard pressed to identify them as sour cherries in a blindfold test; if identified, , one would stll find them not very tasty. Next time, I'm going to try canned sour cherries at 4.00 per 14 oz. or less, depending on the brand and outlet. Also, although not classic, might be fine to make or buy a cherry conserve to use in the Black Forest gateau. I've seen recipes that involve making conserve rather than using sour pitted cerries form a jar.

I found a similar product elsewhere for half the price. Similar flavor. I used it to make pies for Christmas

I have had Morello cherries, although they were of a different brand. The only reason I purchased this brand was because the grocery hasn't carried them for a while. Those were plump, juicy, sweet and quite delicious...and, if truth be told, 'addictive' ~ in the best way possible. My mother loved them as well. They also cost less than five dollars for each jar.These Morello cherries tasted old, flavourless, and...sort of rubbery. I truly wish I could return them for full refund. I want my money back. I am SO sorry that I bought them! No one should have to eat these things! I want a good brand, and not something from that part of the world. Amazon needs to find competent brands that carry something palatable and cost-effective. There is no reason for it to be overpriced, regardless of quality.

I purchased the Trader Joe's Dark Morello Cherries for a tart I am going to use during the Holiday. I tried out the Morello Cherries in a bundt cake and it was amazing. I am going to order more because I don't think I will have enough on hand for my Holiday baking.

Excellent! I knew that my wife liked these "darker, and not so sickeningly sweet" cherries ever since our trip to Italy, and these were a great buy! Great for drinks with or without muddling, for ice cream topping, or better yet, to mix in with a fresh batch of homemade ice cream! Delicious!

Bought a jar of Trader Joe's Morello cherries July 4th on Amazon. They taste pretty good to me! Am using these type of cherries to reproduce Martha Washington's recipe for cherry bounce as close to original as possible. I will open the jars on Christmas eve and update my review at that time.

I used these cherries to convert them to marischinos for cocktails using monk fruit sweetener. They turned out great and were so much better than the chemical laden one you find in the stores.
