A lifetime of Thumbs-ups. A reliably powerful tool.
My old DeWalt finally gave up the ghost after 4 years of use. I'm a Landscape Contractor, using it to cut slates, remove old screws, cutting pipe, brick, etc. After 20n years in Biz, I've learned to spend more money on good tools. This unit has power to spare. We sometimes have to use thermal Bluestone that is 2-2.5 inches thick and this cut it like butter. The cutting wheels seem to last longer too, because the unit is always turning at such high speed.I've had it for several months now and use it several times a week. You can change the speed by how hard you depress the trigger which is a useful advent to the product. Sometimes you need to get going a little slower so things don't slide or damage the item you're using it on. The wheel is pretty easy to change and I got the dust collection item as an after market buy. It makes clean-up, (and breathing) a little bit easier. But it is not the be all end all help one hopes it will be. Still, i'm not unhappy I got the collector. But I am VERY HAPPY I got this grinder. And if you look at it for a few days, but do not buy, you poften find offers for a few dollars less in the coming days and weeks. I didn't do this because I'm that cheap. I was just unsure which unit to purchase. I think I made the right decision. And even as a homeowner? I think this would last a lifetime, as well as do every job you need it to do. So for the homeowner, but especially the pro, this gets a big thumbs up from me. (And because of how well it works, it may very well maintain your thumb, allowing you to give the thumbs up for the remainder of a lifetime.)

I'm not a contractor. I'm a DIY, home project kinda guy. I wanted an angle grinder for a few projects around the house -- Amazon had a sale on Dewalt so I got this for a great price. The first time I pulled it out of the box, I was impressed by its heft -- and realized this was a serious tool. Well I was even more impressed -- and surprised -- when I switched it on for the first time; this thing is powerful. This is one of those tools that feels like it could kill you if you look at it the wrong way -- one of those tools you instantly respect. I had to remove some rust from an axe blade, so I screwed in a wire wheel -- it turned into a 15 second job to clean off the rust. I had to cut through a steel bar -- I screwed on a cutting blade. Cut through a 3/4 inch steel bar in less than a minute. ZIP!Its loud, it twists with wonderful torque in your hands, and commands respect. In return you feel like you could cut and grind absolutely anything and everything you look at. More fun projects to come!

Outstanding Value with the Features I Demand!
I love this grinder! It has the features of a 9" grinder in a 5" package. It's tough, and powerful. It doesn't require you to release a "safety" to start it. Pull the trigger, and you're going. It also has a lock to hold the trigger in the on position, for those long jobs that require it. The trigger handle is "normal" sized, so you're not trying to hold onto the whole 3" plus diameter of the main body of the machine. Many grinders are like that, and they promote pre-mature hand fatigue. This is a personal "pet-peeve" of mine! What kind of sado-masochist would design such a thing, let alone want to use it! This grinder is comfortable to use for long periods of time, and it has the "snort" to back it up! It even has an air injection design to help keep the motor cooler, while reducing the amount of dust that can enter the motor housing. Very smart! I would definitely buy this grinder again, but I think that someone would have to steal this one first. It's going to take a long time to wear it out!!!!

Powerful, loud, hot
This is a very good grinder. It has a TON of power and with a 4.5 inch wheel of any kind there's no way you're going to be able to bog it down. It can really throw some sparks. It's sturdy and well built without being too heavy to handle for extended periods. The only two things I would change about it are:1. It is very loud. Wear hearing protection.2. The motor and gearbox on the front of the unit get hot and stay hot for a long time with intensive use. It won't burn you but it's hot enough that it makes me worry about how long the bearings and brushes in this thing are going to last.

If you want a good grinder, don't buy this one.
I got this grinder last feb. used it three times and it burned up under normal use. I was told to take it to a local dewalt repair shop where I was told they would have to send it back to the factory. I just got it back after 2 months and used it once to cut off three one eighth inch thick T braces and made it through two before it burnt up again!!!!! I use old cheap black & decker grinders at work nearly every day and have less failures with them....So if you are looking for a good grinder ,,,don't buy this one.I will say I've got Dewalt tools I've been using for 15 years without any problems, but this one has been nothing but trouble..

Grinder only, CAN'T SAND WITH IT!!!
The grinder works great as a "grinder", however, the other day I needed to use it to sand some primer off a large section of steel. I tried to add a sanding adapter, available at most hardware stores, and it wouldn't fit. Not only is the arbor to short, but the base of the arbor sits below the flange of the tool. So even if the arbor was long enough to get the nut on, when you tighten the nut, it sucks it right up against the base of the tool and locks up. I'm really disappointed at this. I used up three Ryobi grinders over the years, and you could grind or sand with them, they even came with the sanding adapter and nut. Add to that they were $29 and came with a nice case to store them in. I just got tired of the soft brush sets and poor power cords they use. So I went with a Dewalt for $139, no case, a "lot" louder and you can't sand with it. I just ordered a 6124-30 Milwaukee From Northern Tool ($129, w free shipping). I would not have ordered the Dewalt had I known it was a grinder only. It would have been a four star unit had you been able to sand. Add a case and make it a quieter, and it would be five stars.
