Very entertaining romps through the English language

The books arrived most timely, unusual for our usual postal delivery of this medium. As for the books, I have laughed aloud more than I have in years. The subject matter is deep, arcane, and presented so delightfully I only wish I'd had these when I was at university.

If you look at these books and know how they could be fun, I wholeheartedly recommend them to you. Amusing, insightful, and right up your alley.

These books are great. I'd recommend them to any word nerds out there. My only issue is the cover of these books is foil-paper that shows damage really easily.

I just love the conversational tone and funny anecdotes and clear examples, as we wander through various literary devices and styles and tropes and forgotten words. Just wonderful. Got all three twice: one set was read; one set was a gift.

Bloody brilliant.

Amusing tidbits of history around the articles of rhetoric (that wasn’t taught to me nor my daughters in school). He made the subject amusing entertaining while making each point very understandable. I highly recommend his books for anyone who wants to be conversant on this subject in relatively few pages.

I am going through the books now so I can do an educational plan to help my grandchildren to learn proper English. I will use this as a research book.

If you are interested to know about the English language these books are full of inspiring facts.They clearly open the reader to look at our amazing language with fresh and deep respect. Very helpful for aspirig writers and also for anyone who just reads for fun.... You will be constantly surprised at the etymology of some words and I think it helps considerably with appreciating the richness and development of the English language.
