YOU ARE IN FOR A TREAT!
I rarely write reviews on Amazon although I really appreciate other customers’ reviews and always take them into consideration when I purchase a product. With that in mind, I am going to review BRAMI’s Lupini Bean Hummus.First, a bit of background. I really love hummus but am allergic to products derived from sesame seeds. That includes sesame oil (Chinese food) as well as tahini (traditional hummus)! What a bummer! For quite a while, I have been trying to find hummus that does not include tahini. I have found only one product, which is made by Majestic. However, it is rarely available online and very difficult to find even local stores. In a recent Google search for “no tahini hummus,” I came upon BRAMI’s Lupini Bean Hummus, which is a product of Italy.I had never heard of Lupini beans and did a bit of research. They are similar to fava beans in size and shape, but more closely resemble soy beans in taste and texture. Yet they are almost void of any starch and low in carbohydrates. They are highly nutritious and incredibly high in protein, second only to the soybean. In fact, they have the full range of essential amino acids. They also offer a generous amount of fiber and vitamins. Lupini beans can be extremely bitter and very toxic if not prepared properly. However, they can be quite tasty after a lengthy soaking period. And, that certainly is the case with BRAMI hummus.BRAMI hummus is absolutely delicious!! But it has a unique flavor with no resemblance to traditional hummus. There are several flavors. My preference is the original flavor, which is less spicy than some of the others although all of them are quite tasty. Individuals who are particularly health conscious should be aware that BRAMI hummus is not USDA Organic although it is Non-GMO Verified, which is a good thing. Also, the triangle on the bottom of the plastic container does not have a number. However, I contacted BRAMI and was informed the containers and lids are made of plastic (#1, #5) that are BPA-free. You are in for a real treat. It will difficult not to eat an entire container in one sitting!

Expensive and taste awful
I have 21 food allergies, so I’m always looking for new products, since I can’t eat most products and often cook from scratch. I thought I would give this a try, because I like most beans and already make my own hummus.I didn’t think this could be inedible, under any circumstances, but they are. They taste absolutely awful (and pretty much all the same despite the different flavors). Since they are so expensive, and inflation is so awful, I keep trying to force myself to use them up. . . But honestly, I would rather just starve than ever have to eat one of these dips again. They are truly awful, with the primary flavor, for each container, being cheap/disgusting vinegar/pickled flavor and salt. It’s hard to even try to just force it down, and believe me, I tried. . . And I’m not even a remotely picky eater. I eat almost everything that I am not allergic to. On top of the bad/rotting flavor, the texture is also really grainy and unappealing. So if the intensely awful flavor doesn’t get you, the unpleasant texture will finish you off. That could have been corrected, by simply processing the dip until it was a bit smoother, but nope. They didn’t.I know each person likes something different, and first opinions can be wrong, so I kept trying these, in case it would get better. 5 different times I made myself eat these dips, and each time was worse. I also tried doctoring it up with Siracha and lime…and neither of those two very powerful flavors were strong enough to overcome the intensely awful pickled/processed flavor. It prevails over everything. Also, don’t bother mixing this into soup, to try to hide the awful flavor. It can’t be hidden and just spreads everywhere, so you’ll ruin your soup.I just can’t do it. Especially at this price point. Major disappointment, so this was an allergy friendly food fail. However, if you like really intense pickeled/vinegar/salt flavors that overwhelm all other flavors, this might be your cup of tea. If the flavor wasn’t so bad, I would have been fine with the texture, but if you hate the flavor, then the texture just makes it look even more like cheap pet food from a can, which makes it even harder to swallow. It’s clear this was not for me. Maybe that’s my mistakes for failing to realize how intense and pickeled and processed this would test. I was thinking it would have a much cleaner and less chemical flavor. Also, the price was way too high, but I splurged in this, thinking maybe it would be amazing and worth it. I think if you’re paying more than $3 a container, it’s way too much for what you are getting, considering amount and quality.

Great substitute for high carb chickpea hummus! ZERO Net Carbs!
I love hummus and have sadly missed it on my keto diet. For a long time I put off trying this Lupini hummus substitute because it was so pricy, but now I am sorry I waited so long! It's not exactly like chickpea hummus but close enough! It's going to be one of my staples now. I like that It doesn't have to be refrigerated until you open it too. It does have some olive oil on top, but I add some extra, extra-virgin olive oil to the top and a little more garlic powder, since I like my hummus garlicky. You could also add some more tahini if you like yours with more of a tahini flavor. If you have put off trying this and are a hummus lover and on keto, don't deny yourself anymore! You can also buy jarred lupini beans (processed so you just open the jar and use them) to make hummus from scratch, but they can be a little hard to find unless you have a Mediterranean store near you, but this is convenient since it's pre-made.
