This is great for decking, haven't used it for grass but for decking alone it's a must have for me really pleased with it.

Useless for decking
Tried to use today and would not fit in between the slippery wet decking, the metal is very thick to fit in between and I ended up not cleaning the top windows and charging customer less despite my assurances I could clean her top windows. She was not happy and nor am I doing nearly 20 quid in cold blood. Such a waste of money.

4-4.6mm aluminium
You need around a 4.5-4.6mm gap between decking boards to use these. The Aluminium is mainly just under 4mm but the thickness at the corner of a couple of my four (two pairs) reaches 4.6mm. I'd suggest testing by putting a 4.5mm drill bit between decking planks before ordering.I used these with two ladders to fit an wall awning over decking. They locked the two ladders in place very firmly and were worth every penny of their (not cheap) price even for just one job. It's the first time I've felt comfortable climbing any ladder without someone having a foot on the bottom.Note that the third picture on the Amazon listing which shows a ladder being used on decking with the points set onto the wood surface rather than between decking planks does not match the instructions to place tangs between decking, or pushed into grass, and looks rather unsafe. It's clearly from the same set of photos as used on the manufacturer website, but is not present there in 2022. This would I think be a dangerous way to use these devices.
