Morning and Evening Paperback – December 1, 2001

I found Spurgeon's Morning and Evening from a Bible app a few months ago and have been reading every message twice every day. Every read was a blessing to me in many ways that eventually changed my mind from being content to read it from a mobile app to wanting to possess a physical copy. I have been inspired by both his profound understanding of the Word of God and devotedness to the love of Christ and His Church. While his messages are challenging to every sincere believer, they are never short of compassion, comfort, edification, and encouragement. My intention is never idolizing any saint of God, which none of Christian should do, but I am humbled and thankful when God by His grace leaves us such a rich heritage through the testimonies of His redeemed saints from age to age. God is true and faithful throughout all generations, Amen. If you by any divine arrangement read this review, I encourage you to get a copy and read it with your Bible opened; you will grow closer to your Savior and mature in truth and grace that your faith will be strengthened to face whatever God brings to your life for your sanctification.

The superb preacher and writer, Charles Haddon Spurgeon, had a remarkable sense of the realities of God in the Christian's life. Every sentence is filled with biblical insights winsomely stated. This is a tonic to the drabness, torpor, and boredom that sometime threaten the follower of Jesus.

So my friend Chandu gifted me with an Amazon gift card for my birthday in 2019, and I bought this devotional with some of the money. I'd heard many good things about Charles Haddon Surgeon and his life as a Baptist Preacher. I learned among many things that he battled illness and great depression, in bouts so bad he often had to withdrawal and rest from the world and it's demands. A devotional from such a highly regarded and godly man seemed very good to read, but I was reluctant to splurge on what I thought would be an expensive book and hard to obtain. But when my friend so generously gifted me money via Amazon for my birthday, I used it to buy something I wouldn't normally for myself, something that I can keep and use a long time as a memento of my friend, as well as minister to my spirit and often depressed soul in the Lord. I was very pleased to find such a nice version of it through Amazon, and it wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be. I've only been fairly consistent in reading the morning section of the devotional but it's been very beautiful and encouraging in the Lord. It's such that it's a shame I didn't buy it sooner, but it has been a godsend in these present days. I would highly recommend this devotional for yourself or someone you love and care about. It would make a great birthday present, I think.

I bought this for my sister for her birthday. It is an excellent devotional and is very encouraging to anyone who reads it. It is a great way to start and end your day. What an awesome blessing! I highly recommend this book.

My husband had an old (ugly and dirty) copy of Morning and Evening. I wanted to buy him a new one but he was concerned it would be the "updated" one where they change it to modern English, etc. This one is the original, classic edition and looks soooooo much better on our coffee table. Also, it's a great devotional. We are always encouraged when we read this together. Perfect to keep right where we can see it in the living room so we are regularly picking this up to read together.

This devotional by the great Charles Haddon Spurgeon, known as the "prince of preachers," will not disappoint! I've given it twice already as a gift for meaningful occasions. Each devotion is rich in thought, sound in theology, and packs a punch! Highly recommend to those who love God's Word.
