This book is a specialized text from the Patrick Moore Practical Astronomy Series, and will not be useful unless you either own or have access to a Meade ETX telescope. Having said that, if you do, then you really should not be without it. The first half of the text is devoted to the features, the capabilities, and the limitations of the ETX, and offers a set of solutions to some of the issues that arise when first exposed to Meade's curious piece of engineering. Keep in mind that this book as actaully adapted from Weasner's "Mighty ETX" website, and so if you own an ETX and are looking for something new in this book that wasn't on his website, you'll probably be disappointed. However, as one who generally prefers print over screens, I am pleased to have acquired this text.

After having owned an ETX 90 telescope since 1999 I finally got the best out of it after having read this book. I got the latest software upgrade from Meade via the internet (free)and then bought this book and the combo of the two has made a huge difference in the performance (and enjoyment) of my small telescope. I would definitely recommend this book to any ETX90/ETX125 owner.

This eagerly awaited book has finally arrived! Best of all, it is specifically directed to those of us who own and you use one of the Meade ETX scopes. It is an essential tool/accessory for anyone who uses an ETX to view the universe, and I'm sure others will no doubt find it helpful, as well. For those of us familiar with Mr. Weasner's site on the Internet, we all know that it is an invaluable source of information for any amateur astronomer, regardless of level of experience or equipment used. There is something for everyone, from the very first-time night sky watcher, to the novice beginner or the advanced user of the most complex and expensive gear available. As many times as I will return to that web site, now I have a handy, well organized, clearly written and equally useful compendium of information that I can carry with me and read anywhere at all (without having to download page after page and print, to bring with me in the field, or elsewhere). Great features are the wonderfully organized table of contents and useful index to quickly locate the kinds of things I want to know while using the book as a reference, whether away from the scope, or actually out observing the stars and celestial bodies, etc. The book is a "fast read" if you choose to 'devour' it that way (I did!) ......that helps compensate for the pretty grotty manuals that Meade provide - like the ones with our ETX 105. If you have one, you'll know that these manuals are cobbled together assemblages of the right information, but not in the right order. Magnificent Meade optics, amateurish manuals.Mike Weaver's book is a distillation of data from his "Mighty ETX" website edited neatly together in a straightforward format.If you have a Meade ETX, or are just thinking about which 'scope you might buy, this is a very useful book - much of its advice applies pretty generally to 'scopes of this size by other makers, although some of the instructions are of course specific.Endorsed by Patrick Moore, too. Highly recommended.

This book is a great help in learning how to correctly use the Meade telescopes, it's comprehensive and easy to understand , there's no gobbledygook just good plain English help. My only gripe is the cost, a bit too pricey for what it is.

The thing I like about this book is that it is in plain english so that new stargasers , like me, can easily understand what he is talking about.Well presented and good value for money.

Contains much that is just general astronomy infomation available in almost any astronomy book you pick up. I told me nothing new!

本書は、著者が１９９６年のＭｅａｄｅ製ＥＴＸ発売以来、使用してきた経験を基に有効な観測方法や保守方法などをまとめたものである。本体付属のマニュアル通りに行えば一通りのことは出来るかもしれないが、著者の経験からマニュアルでは触れられていない調整方法や保守方法、アップグレード方法など、また、ＥＴＸを活用して天体観測をする上での基本知識や実際の天体観察方法なども盛り込まれている。本書はＥＴＸ-９０ＥＣを主に（時として同１２５ＥＣ、９０ＲＡも含めて）中心事例として説明しているが、他のＥＴＸ機種についても共通事項が多いため、必要知識としては大幅に変わることは無いと思われる。横文字天文用語も少し出てくるが、英文は平易で分かりやすい。これからＥＴＸで天体観測を始!めようと思う人や、ＥＴＸの使い方がよく分からないがステップアップしたいと思う人には身近な入門書と言えるだろう。この一冊を読み終わる頃には、ＥＴＸを一通り使いこなせる知識やスキルが身についている筈で、今後のシステムアップや天体観測の一助となると思われる。
