Knit Ponchos, Wraps & Scarves

For the scarf knitter
I am not into panchos, so I would not have even opened this book at the store. However my mother loves scarves and she picked it up at our local "big box" book store. We both loved it but there was only one copy. She is not computer savy so I decided to order this at amazon and let her buy the one in the store. It is great. I would say more wraps and scarfs rather than panchos. The patterns are not all simiple though some are. They are all interesteing and I would knit at least 85% of the patterns. I also think that the patterns are appropriate for a vast age group. This is a friendly "new" knitters book and if you like scarfs and wraps.

Great how-to for constructing a poncho
This book contains a lot of very useful information about constructing and designing ponchos and wraps. It isn't merely a collection of patterns, but also tells how to alter most any scarf or shawl to make it a poncho. It gives information on how to determine the shape and size to knit. There are patterns, but you could also knit your own design using this book.

I get this book to find out there are many ...
I get this book to find out there are many mistakes in the patterns. Called publishers and did not get any help as they don’t have the corrections anymore. Do NOT BUY this book. I did not return because I was on vacation and was not able to return in time.

10 Patterns have ERRORS ask Publisher for Errata Pages
I flipped through this book at the store and found several items I would like to make. I prefer written directions so I had a problem with my first project the bead-fringe scarf. Luckily the chart was correct. I read through the reviews and saw others were having problems so I contacted [...] and they did email me corrected or clarified instructions/charts for about 10 of the projects. Pro's: Most of the projects are simple and attractive with good photos. Neg's: The directions/charts are wrong. You have to contact the publisher and request corrections they don't have an "errata page" to access at their site. I understand the occassional error will be overlooked but 10 in one book???

Looking Cool And Being ...
warm during the summer months. I have Raynaud's Phenomena and the a/c in the south wards me off from going out. Now I can go out not looking totally out of season and be warm!!! I already recommend this to people with Raynaud's, the elderly who still enjoy knitting and crocheting, petite women who complain of always being cold. My Landlord loved the patterns looking super in the one she knit. It is easy, fun, and excellent choice pattern book.

Nice
I think this is a nice book with a variety of projects. Actually I do not have this book anymore, it was purged when I relocated.

worthwhile purchase
Jane Davis has written several fine books on beading and knitting and she doesn't disappoint with her newest one. Lots of beaded projects but also beginner projects and good explanations. There are only 3 ponchos and mainly the patterns are for scarves or wraps. Lots of techniques: cables, lace, etc. Everything is well explained and the book is beautifully produced with 150 color photos and 75 charts and illustrations for over 40 items. Each item lists the original yarn used and also uses the number guide to type of yarn weight and indicates the skill level for the project.

Knit Ponchos, Wraps & Scarves
As an experienced "beginner" this book is full of delightful patterns. There are certainly advanced patterns also. The color of the photographed work is exceptional. Love the close-ups. Our knitting/crocheting club refer to the patterns by color. Many great scarf patterns for gift giving. Quick, inexpensive, using only 1 or 2 skeins of yarn, and best of all, perfectly beautiful finished product. This book would be one for anyone who enjoys a fun new twist on scarves, wraps or ponchos. Check finished length on the scarves. I have found a few to be too short...I just add to the middle rows of the pattern when working in horizontal or cast on more stitches when working in vertical. (allow accordingly when purchasing yarn)

Great variety of designs
The designs range from simple and suitable for a beginner to advanced intermediate with beaded knitting. The designs use US yarns which are not readilty available here in the UK but for most of the yarns can be substituted as exact tension is not critical with scarves and wraps. The first section of the book has description of the differences between types of scarves and shawls and some basic knitting instructions. The next chapter is designs using garter stitch where the yarn choosen makes the scarf/shawl unique. The next chapter introduces designs with knit/purl combinations and then some designs with cables. Aftern that there is several designs using lace knitting followed by beaded knitting. The final set of designs uses fringes, beaded finges and i-cord edgings.
