Smooth polished stone
It has a smooth polish finish and its surface was a little larger than I expected. Handle feels secure. All and all this is a pretty solid little tool for burnishing.

Absolute junk.....
An agate burnisher is quite simple to make: Take a piece of agate shape it , polish till smooth. Simple. It seems, though, not simple enough for some. I, quite literally, have sandpaper smoother than this so called "burnisher". This useless waste of time will be returned, forthwith, as soon as I finish with the current order of gold leaf work for which it was SUPPOSED to be used on.Conversely... if you take the time to look, you will find an ad for a set of five (5) agate burnishers of varying sizes for about a dollar or so less. THOSE work GREAT! ...well worth the price, just make sure you get the NATURAL STONE burnishers and NOT the imitation/faux/manufactured ones

Weird item sent and will not do fine work
This is nowhere near the same item pictured. It will not do fine work. I have never seen this kind of agate hockey stick. Will have to purchase at a local art store so I know what I’m getting. This will do large flats, but one doesn’t often do that sort of work with gilding.

~ Love Agate Burnishers
Agate stone is the way to burnish. The stone is carved perfectly smooth for the task, whether jewelry, paper, wood or metal. Owning the different shaped agate heads allows you to get in all of the nooks and crannies of your work. So far so good. The tool is well made and I'm happy.
