Solid little cutter mattock, excellent for small jobs in tight spots
15" overall, just under 10" head length, 15oz head, 8oz handle. The cutter blade is just slightly longer than the mattock blade. I gave it a quick trial, then took it to my bench sander to slightly re-profile and sharpen the edges. I used a 220 grit belt and a can of water to keep the steel cooled.Fast and easy tune-up, then a fast and easy removal of a shrub's root wad in a tight corner between a wall, a fence, a retaining wall, and other plantings. Great tool for short swings in a tight spot. The tool has a good grip and a solid handle. The handle is narrow, as it has to be to fit thru the eye in the toolhead.I use 2.5 lb and 5 lb full length cutter mattocks frequently in forestry work. This little guy might even make it up to the woods. I could stick it in my tool belt when I'm packing a chainsaw but might need to grub out something in the shrub category. It is a real tool.

Seems solid, can't wait till the ground freezes to try it.
The media could not be loaded. Using it for only metal detecting in the winter. Will update review when the ground freezes, but I can tell already it's going to last many years to come. Also comes sharpened. You can always use a bench grinder or angle grinder to make a new edge.*update, love this lil thing. So light, so easy to break down and place in backpack. Doesn’t break my glass finds being heavy and bulky. If you dig alot and were looking for something travel size and realistic. This is a great tool to simple toss in the tool box, etc. would buy again, but I feel it will last forever no joke. The thick handle I don’t see myself breaking if that was a concern!

UPDATED: Good Small Cutter Mattock for the Price
PRE-REVIEW NOTE: I had originally posted a one star review for this product because it was much different than what was pictured on the website at the time - photos showed the mattock head locking to the very top of the handle, and another showed a full size mattock being swung over a guys head. After I posted the review, the seller contacted me and told me the photos were wrong and that he corrected them. When I checked he had corrected most, but had left the one with the full size tool up inadvertently. Once I contacted him about that he fixed it. He also refunded my purchase price since I was unhappy with the product. The one negative thing I will say about my interaction with the seller is that he tried to guilt me into removing my review, which is why it took me so long to change it - as a rule I will not change honest reviews at the seller's request. However, the owner in this case did fix the misleading aspects of the product description, and the issues in my original review no longer apply to this product. On to the updated review:****************************************************************************************************************************As long as you know what you are actually ordering this is a great little cutter mattock for the price. The key word here is "little" - it is slightly larger than a standard hammer, so it is more for gardening and getting through roots of smaller trees and bushes than it is for removing a full size stump. The dimensions of the product are clearly given, and the erroneous pictures were removed, so anyone ordering should know what they are getting if paying attention. The tool is light and easy to use in tight spaces, which is key if you are doing landscaping in a garden bed. You can easily operate it with one hand, which makes it much easier to get at the roots of a bush that is surrounded by others. The head is sharp enough for getting through most roots, but could stand to be sharpened a bit.I am taking one star off because of a little concern about the mechanism for mounting the head. The mattock comes in 2 pieces and you attach the head by sliding it up the mattock until it stops. However, there is no notch or other mechanism to secure the head - you just bang it on the ground to mount it. This is not specific to this mattock - I've seen other less expensive ones that do the same thing, but I am able to still remove the head pretty easily after putting it on, which makes me concerned that it could come loose during use. I solution I have seen on similar tools was to install small wood screws right underneath the bottom of the head after it is installed.Overall an excellent cutter mattock for gardening needs for the price!

My new favorite gardening tool for cutting roots and digging up root balls.
If you find roots to be annoying when digging a hold to plant something, then get this! This mattock cutter works great for digging out plant root balls. One end can cut throw roots, while the other end can act as a spade and help dig out the area. The item is a great size and not too heavy. I'm very happy with this tool and it has helped me tremendously.

beware of blisters
I love how this works, but the top part frenquenty slides down, and i get blisters on my middle finger after a few smacks with this. I would recommend saving yourself the money and getting a better quality one.

This mattock works great!!!
Very pleased with this pick/mattock. Chops through tough soil to dig out weeds and small roots by hand. The size is perfect and it is light in the hand. The grip is comfortable and shock absorbing. Price was right too. Best weeding hand tool out there, and I have quite a few! You won’t be disappointed!

Useful Tool
I'm using this for gardening to tune up some very old, overgrown 3 foot tall ground cover beds. Much faster and more effective than a trowel to go after roots in the soil, and whacks through tangled vines with ease. And if I run across anything living in there that wants to fight back, it better think twice with this in my hand! : )

Not bad for price
This blade is a bit narrow, can't be more then 1.5" wide one vertical, one horizontal. The head ships off the handle and is ziptied to the handle. The handle is a lightweight fiberglass, but wasn't sure how it would hold up. I used on some roots growing into my yard from neighbors, about 2-4" round roots and it was sharp enough to chop into and eventually cut the root out. So it did it's job. For the price i recommend, it's not the best quality, the head just slips on and doesn't lock in place but as you swing it wasn't loose or anything, it was sturdy to dig out smaller things. Anything bigger then this and i would have got a standard size pick axe.
