Speck Products CandyShell Grip Cell Phone Case for Google Nexus 5X ONLY Smartphone - Retail Packaging - Black/Slate

Living with the Speck case four months, and just having a huge drop on the ground, I decided to review this.So when I first got it, the grip "ridges" seemed a little too much for me (as in, too high), but they were certainly grippy! After 4 months with it, I've come to appreciate these grip ridges. (I have the black case, so the ridges are grey color, for reference).The main part of the case (the black part) is pretty "slippery" and it actually scratches easily. So now, instead of a very smooth and glossy look, it looks more like 'brushed aluminum' (if plastic had a 'brushed aluminum' finish :) )So, up until the 'accident', I liked the case very much.The other day, I was getting out of my car, in the dark, in the rain, and dropped the phone. I dropped it from a height of about 5 feet.It landed on my concrete driveway. It was dark and raining, so I can't say how it landed (as in orientation, flat, sideways, on an edge, etc.)Like most people would do, I got inside and checked my phone, expecting to be dismayed at the inevitable cracks in the screen and likely damage to the phone (I was expecting the internal hardware to get hurt, and figured my apps would not work right).To my relief, my phone was fine! I couldn't even find a new scratch or dent on the phone case.For reference for other Nexus 5x users, because the Nexus 5x has a hump where the rear camera is, it is the weak link in the phone. So I have a good quality, tempered glass screen protector on it at all times (I change screen protectors once they start getting scratched too much). I also have a "Martin Fields Overlay Screen Protector" (but only use the small, round camera protector. That piece saves my main camera from getting scratches while the phone is in my pocket or briefcase.So, back to the case itself, besides being pricier than most Nexus 5x cases, and the black plastic easily getting scratches (I don't care about that), it's a great case, and has saved my phone from a pretty hard drop of at least 5 feet directly onto concrete!

This is a great case without a lot of bulk. First, it fits the Nexus 5X perfectly. Every cut out and button is exactly where it is supposed to be and does not interfere with the OEM charger or headphones. The raised lip makes setting the phone face down concern free, as the screen won't touch anything. The back of the phone levels out the camera lens bump on the back of the 5X to make sitting the phone that way perfect as well. The grips are perfectly placed for two handed or one handed use. As someone with small hands, the grips help me not drop the phone. Especially since the 5X has a rather slippy plastic back. The case also seems pretty durable, although the grips have helped ensure I have not had to test that part yet.The downsides are this case is not available in many colors. Although this doesn't bother me, as I like the color black, many people do like to have colorful cases. The black plastic does show fingerprints a lot. Probably the biggest thing that I don't like about the Speck case is that Speck says it meets military drop standards and gives you some number that does not tell you anything. I wish Speck would just tell you how far it has been drop tested for, much like Ballestic does. That would make their advertising more clear.

I bought two of these for my teenagers because Speck cases are rated really well for protecting phones. The kids like that they are thin enough that the phones still slip into their pockets, I like that their phones are protected well. The only reason that I gave four stars is that within two weeks one of the grey detail pieces was already ripping off of the case, and we haven't been able to glue it back down and have it stay. We bought screen protectors to go along with the case. For their previous phones we bought LifeProof cases - they are spectacular protection, but they are so much thicker that the kids always took them off the phones. This case is a great compromise for all of us.

The case is a solid case.Eliminates the slippery effect that the Nexus 5X thanks to the grippy lines along the side and back.Feels durable in your hand, but definitely adds heft and weight to the device compared to how it feels without.The case is noticeably thick, but it does allow the device to lay flat on its back instead of elevated by the camera hump.On that same note, the device may need to have your fingerprint redone because your finger may rest differently on the scanner.It is by no means a bad case, but it makes the phone just a bit bigger than I think it should.

I love this case. I've had it for about two months. It's a single piece made up of shiny black plastic and slightly grippier softer grey rubber. It's pretty scratch resistant and still looks nearly new. I'm a clutz and regularly drop my phone, but the texture of the case really helps. It's not so textured that it doesn't slide into a jeans pocket. All plugs fit, and the case adds very little bulk. Also, I use a metal plate for a magnetic mount and it fits inside the case without hindering fit at all.Aesthetically I like the contrast and the utility of the case.

I bought this because it matches the one sold/recommended by Google on their store. Bought for around £22 (£10 cheaper than google store). Really pleased with the case so far has done an excellent job of protecting my phone. Its chunky with lots of grip due to the rubber (shown as grey lines in the picture). The only con was it took a month to deliver but it did say that on the product description I just didn't realize until after I ordered it. 5 out of 5!

The best shell case I've found for the Nexus 5X. It costs more than others but it's definitely worth it. I've had it on for 3 months now and still working well.It is a glossy black which is showing scratches but doesn't really detract from the overall look. I'd rather that was scratched that the phone!

Very grippy case, unlike most of the other cases that I have owned.The gloss does get scratched, but I care more about function over form, so this is not a big deal to me at all.

Love these cases, the shiny bit does scratch up a little, but the grippy sides are brilliant at preventing drops and the phone is protected well. Delivery was also super quick.

Very good quality case, perfect fit and good all round protection for the phone.
