Steelex 4-Inch Precision Square, Silver, Hardened and Tempered Steel Construction

I have a 6 inch and 2 inch machinest square and wanted a 4 inch to round my set out. I work with wood so the high precision of the top end squares would be wasted on me. As long as this is square to the eye, it will work for me.I got this and opened it. The box it came in was sturdy but a little worse for the wear. Opened the package and wiped the protective oil off it. Unlike other, uninformed reviews, I think a protective coating of oil is a good thing. Metal rusts unless protected.I measured the exterior for square and then measured the interior for square. Looks perfect to me.Machinists squares are not supposed to have graduation marks, they aren't used for measuring. They check things for, well, square.The sharp edge just means a great reference edge when I check for square as well.I'm very happy with how accuracy of this tool and especially due to its low price.

This is a nice little square. I use it a lot probably because its such a convenient size that I can put in a pocket. From all I can tell, its of good quality, and I've had no problems with it.

It is perfect, with the exception that it has no hole to hang it on a hook or store it in a way other than putting it in a drawer - which would be out of sight. I love the tool because it's small (so many huge ones), clean and straight. I solved my own problem of storing it by buying a Gorrila Strip magnetic tool/ knife strip. Those, by the way, work very well and are inexpensive and easy to install. I still will try to drill a hole in it to hang it near my workstation. It would be great with a small ring and a lanyard on it.

I requested the Steelex D3383 Precision Square, 4-Inch, Silver for determining whether or not my hubby's Japanese sharpening stone surfaces are completely flat. He uses the edge of the square, held flat against the surface of the stone to search for any gaps where light passes between stone and square. The Steelex D3383 Precision Square works very well for this purpose. He recommends the square for his process because most stones are 1.5 to 3 inches in width. It is a good product at a reasonable price.

Do Not Buy. This "square" was not square - unusable. Requested a refund, Amazon doesn't even want me to bother to send it back.

I enjoy this square. It's big enough to use on planking and table saw setup. The heavy base works quite well to set it upright for squaring tooling or drill lines. I've dropped it a couple of times, then checked it with my machinist square and it remained true. Not bad for a wood working general use square.

I watch a lot of tutorials, read a lot of “how-tos” and reviews on equipment. Always kinda figured I didn’t need one of these. I held off ordering for months (although I don’t know why, principle I would guess) and finally dug into the kids college fund to finance this shiny steel accessory. When my video doorbell told of its arrival my heart skipped a beat, I finally own a steel “L” called a square. I could not get my table saw, miter saw, tri-square (also not shaped like a square) and framing square out and dusted off fast enough. I set out to prove my many botched pieces of wood were due to faulty equipment. Oops. The two squares are, as you can guess, square indeed. I set out to check on my saws next. Now we have some challenges. After a bit of fiddling this tiny but herculean piece of precision tells of saw blades ever so slightly out of alignment. I make adjustments, finish a cold adult beverage, make some more adjustments, and lo and behold, square blades! Or at least blades square to tables and fences and stuff. This square, although tiny, is perfect for the purpose. It fits neatly into the equipment to check on tolerances and its heft makes it very stable. I have made 15-20 cuts with the saws since alignment and the cuts (with the exception of my error) are superior in every way now. Wish I would have purchased a long time ago…
