but great for the price
Reads HID cards which was why I bought it. Limited software available to work with, but great for the price.

Be Advised - Not a Standard Card Reader
Be advised that this device is not a conventional smart card reader: a smart card cannot be inserted into the reader since this is only a RFID device.Rated it 3 stars because I have no idea how well it works when used in the proper situation, so I went for an "average" rating.

Let me clarify...
For those of you wondering, this DOES read HID prox cards.HOWEVER!!! This does NOT output the card ID to text fields, nor is the data output easily accessible. In order to use this, you will need to be willing to experiment, and will need to understand programming (whatever language you choose) and interpreting raw data from this device. This model is designed to go along with the pcProx Software Development Kit which is an additional $99 which will allow you to develop applications to natively access the data being sent from the reader. The extra $99 is a bit of a slap, but I understand.I know that the description does say that text output is not supported, but It'd be nice if the seller would update the description to include "SDK purchase may be required to integrate with applications."Software is not included, nor are instructions. You must go to rfideas website and download them there.FYI, the reader that provides text output into documents, fields, etc is the RDR-6081AKU by the same company.

Unit works but you have to place the card right on top touching the unit. Good for some applications.Works.

Got the item on time...however, it did not work for the devices that I expected it to.

This RFID reader requires a SDK to get it to work with any prox cards.
