Pros: Video quality, Easy Install, Cost, Phone app - Great Customer service (had a concern with DVR rebooting and they immediately sent a packing slip and not only replaced DVR but gave me a whole new system.Cons: DVR Software could be better ---- no reason that it couldn't be easier to use. Manual is terrible. DVR fan loud. Comes with power for 4 cameras rather than 8 so had to purchase a 8 split power source.Recommend: YES. Get the 8 channel whether you think you need it or not.

UPDATE 1 year later: Still works great! I’ve added 2 additional cameras and they connected up like plug n play. Regularly view cameras while on the road. I am a real person (not a fake reviewer). Only thing I haven’t completely figured out is motion alerts. When I turn that feature on, I get a ton of emails. Prolly something I’m not setting correctly.ORIGINAL REVIEW: First time purchaser of a home security system. I researched reviews and settled on the Amcrest Eco-HD 720P 8 channel system. I used the quick start documentation to get it all going. I recommend you hook everything up next to your router before mounting and running cables. Just point the cameras in different directions in the same room as your DVR so you can verify it all works. My setup took only about 15 minutes. The issues I had were with my router/modem and my TWC provider. FOLLOW AMCRESTS INSTRUCTIONS. I had to do port forwarding. However, my router (Motorola SBG6782-AC) requires me to use DynDNS.org and the external port of 0.0.0.0 - Remember that if you have problems connecting to your cameras from outside your network.The Amcrest iPhone app works great! I am very happy with my system. My purchase came with 4 cameras (bullets). Wish I had bought the dome type (wah wah) because they are smaller in size. I will expand my system to at least 2 more cameras in the near future.Overall: Very happy

Camera Review-The camera's have very clear picture considering the coaxial cable is so thin. The coaxial wire that would normally be used is a RG59 or RG6 but the coaxial wire that is sent with the package is very small diameter. If you are going to place these cameras more than 100' away from the DVR I would recommend upgrading the wire. Also, the camera's do not zoom so proper placement is critical. The IR function works surprisingly well at night especially when used with a motion light ( make sure the light is not pointed at the camera though ).DVR-Very easy setup. Also easy setup on the mobile up by scanning the QR code on the DVR. The "record on motion" will pick up 90% of motion but not will not record about 10% of the time ( this is typical ). The DVR hard drive is a little loud though, would not recommend installing in bedroom.Also, when considering a CCTV package. I suggest buying a DVR with more inputs than you need. Inputs on DVR's DO go bad and if you have to have four camera's and only have a four input DVR, you are out of luck.Overall for the price ($279), this package is well worth it!!

Like most reviews of these types of systems, the issue boils down to the company. These cameras were easy to set up and the software was pretty easy to install, however the most glaring issue that I have is with the mac software. It is not as robust nor is it as user friendly as the windows version. While you can go back and review footage, it is not possible to zoom down on the timeline making it very difficult to pinpoint the exact time that you are trying to see. There is also no way to make the footage run faster in order to speed through viewing.Now about the company, I had issues with the setup of the email notifications. ios10 did not want to allow notifications because it said that the software security was inadequate. I was told to reduce the security on my mail program to allow the notifications to go through; not good. Next, I had a problem with one of the channels not recording. On some occasions, the company responded quickly, on others it took days. After about a week of back and forth "try this", they decided that my dvr needed replacement. I was asked for contact information, address, phone number, proof of purchase, etc. I submitted that and a week later had not heard back. When I contacted the company asking when to expect my dvr, I was told they are out of stock and I would be put on a list to receive one when they received the units. I was told 2 to 3 weeks before stock would be replenished and its now been 2 weeks and still nothing. I asked if they would consider replacing the unit with an upgrade and was told no.As for the cameras, they work well but the detail is not at a level that would allow you to identify someone captured on the video unless they walked right up to the camera and looked directly at it. If I had to do it again, I would spend the extra bucks for a high def 1080 ip system.

The cameras worked very well. I was able to see the cameras when I was on a 2 week vacationover a thousand miles from home. It gave me peace of mind to be able to check the house while gone. Theplayback of recorded videos also worked well on vacation via Android phone. I plan to add more Amcrest camerasto the system to fill out the 8 inputs so I can see virtually all the way around my house. I am very pleased with build qualityof the cameras. I replaced an older DVR/security camera system that had cameras with a plastic housing, I was pleasedto see the metal on the new cameras and the adjustment system that is stable and not easy to move after theyare tightened up. The quality of the color and cleanness of the video are excellent. The manual seems a bit dry andincomplete, but they have good videos on their website, and I was also able to find other people on youtubewith videos that were helpful with setup and operation of the system.
