Review: Miss Rumphius is such a beautiful story that allows children to think about what they can do. - This was an absolute favorite for one of my daughters. I would read to them before bedtime and she always chose this book. She was five and was so influenced by the traveling and experiences she proclaimed she was going to travel and never have children ( she was pretty observant , noticing no children on her travels). When miss Rumphius travels back home and collects the seeds and then disperses them through town, she is making her world, her communities world a more beautiful place, I love that the message gets passed along. My daughter collected all our sunflower seeds and sprinkled them on a non maintained walking trail she was 8 or so. unfortunately no flowers grew. She graduates from UCSC this week. Her gift is the famous msg from this book framed and watercolored lupine!, just so happens I found a lupine storage box its so pretty, within the box is a new copy of her childhood book and . things Ive collected along the way. another words this book, the art work and message remained to this day something she loved growing up. it may be meant for children older than 4-5 yrs,but if you have a deep thinker early reader, sensitive too I recommend this book in every childs library. It sends a beautiful message.

A Charming Story Of A Genuine Maine Hero
Think “Johnny Appleseed for flowers”, Miss Rumphius was a real person who genuinely spread her love in the most tangible way — by spreading beautiful lupine far and wide in the state of Maine. One of my kids’ favorite books; so much so that I actually got emotional trying to read it to others years later. Charming.

Lovely story
Lovely story about making the world more beautiful. Love the illustrations, lots of cats and critters. Love that it’s about a woman’s full life, not including marriage or having children. You do you Lupine Lady. 💚

I purchased this book to go along with a unit study we are reviewing. It's a lovely story and reminds me of my life so far, which the kids think is quite amusing (not to mention they also think I'm a bit crazy at times)! This year we've planted wildflower seeds around the neighbourhood and have spent time cleaning up our street for the community to enjoy. What great timing to go along with this book. We love books that have a deeper meaning and something can be learned from them along side a beautiful (and true) story with lovely illustrations. We recommend this book to children between 4 and 10.

One of the few I saved from my own childhood collection & my children all love it, too. Highly recommended!

My favorite book from childhood. I've gifted it to at least a dozen new parents, who've all equally enjoyed it. The illustrations are so lovely, the story is a timeless tale about finding one's place in the world & giving back to one's community - "making the world more beautiful". Although it's probably one of the first "feminist" stories (eg. The protagonist is a woman at the turn of the century who prioritizes her career and travel over traditional roles such as marriage and motherhood), ultimately I appreciate there's no fear-mongering or overt political-activist agenda so prevalent in pre/young-readers today, just tried and true good old-fashioned values of setting goals, following one's dreams and making the world more beautiful.
