I've been enjoying the Original variety of Vermont Smoke & Cure's meat sticks since I first bought them at a local health food store, Nature's Pantry, several years ago. The sticks are a little pricier there, as you'd expect, and while I'm happy to pay brick-and-mortar prices for many things--I make a point of shopping in actual stores because I want them to thrive--when it comes to something like this, which I eat a lot of, I'm glad that I can buy it in bulk on Amazon and VS&C's own website, as a single order and via subscription. My online orders of this product date back to 2015, and the quality has been consistently excellent. The sticks are juicy, chewy, satisfying, and come in convenient sizes. The Original variety is spiced just right; it's flavorful but tastes mild and clean. There are just 11 ingredients on the label (12 if you include the collagen casing), and I know what each one of them is and does. I find the half-ounce, Mini size easier to carry around than the longer, 1 oz sticks, but I buy both. If I'm running out of the house without breakfast, I can drop a couple of the Minis in my bag and then chomp on them for energy. They're great as a snack too and can satisfy a meat craving. With equal amounts of fat and protein and zero carbs, they fit both keto and paleo diets. And knowing VS&C's commitment to using humanely raised meats and ingredients from local businesses, I feel great about buying from the company. I don't eat sugars--this really is what's inside the candy jar in my home office, where I spend most of my indoor time.

It's a meat stick. I've had slim jims and other products like it, but these ones are softer and has better flavor with the texture being less fibrous and a little more gelatinous. It can really satisfy that meat craving. I've docked a star because like others, I had one empty sealed pouch in the box. I figured it probably just hitched a ride and there would be 24 sticks in the box, but there were only 23. So, 24 sealed pouches, but only 23 meat sticks. Would I order these again? Yes. They're easy to open and I really like these. They're perfect for long drives, hikes, or a quick snack at work. The product itself is great. Just please take care with the quality control.
