and a separate course grit stone is needed to flatten this fine grit combination over time
These Lavoda water stones aren't cheap, but they sure do sharpen my knives and chisels. I've not appreciated how sharp chisels can be with a water stone. Be aware that the grit on water stones naturally erodes in order to cut the steel, so you need to use the whole surface, and a separate course grit stone is needed to flatten this fine grit combination over time. I have a 1000 Lavoda stone for truing this one and rough-sharpening. Since getting the 1000 plus the 2000/5000 combination, I haven't had to do much grinding.

Nice product, knives are scary sharp
A little soft; not as hard I feel as the king stone, but they do what they're designed for.

Perfect!
Very satisfied! I use this block to restore the blade on a 60yr old straight razor that was passed down to me. After a bit of time and some stropping.. my, my.. my face was silky smooth!

Wonderfully easy-to-use!
Lavoda makes first-class wet stones and this model is the most practical I have found: its 2000- and 5000-grit combination is ideal for most basic sharpening duties, and I really like the safe rubber base into which fits the dual-faced stone; this silicone rubber mount practically glues the sharpener to your kitchen counter-top or to any non-porous surface--very safe and controlled. (Lavoda included a useful little card-style metal multi-tool as a gift with my purchase, an elegant gesture of appreciation for their clients.) I highly recommend this excellent sharpening system!

Now I just need to get good at using it
It is what it says it is. Now I just need to get good at using it. I'm realizing it takes some practice beyond watching a few videos on YouTube. I suggest practice with a knife that isn't precious. Don't start with the good kitchen knives
