Storytelling at its Finest
A real page turner. From the first chapter the book pulled the reader into the story with likable but realistic characters whose lives were ordinary but not ordinary, who lived in a simpler time on the surface but underneath were the eternal complications of human nature, relationships created and shattered, a "coming of age" story with a few twists and turns to keep the reader engaged. The wordsmithing was outstanding with pictures created both by the main story and the story written in the letters. The characters were well rounded, not stereotypes, not predictable. There were clear villains who stayed true to form from beginning to end along with well meaning but bungling side characters who added another dimension. So many novels take the reader down rabbit trails that end suddenly or drop in a character or side story that seems completely unrelated. This was a good honest read and a book worth buying for a fellow reader.

Loved this book!!
I just finished reading this wonderful book. I read mainly at night in bed and I love it when I have an especially good book to look forward to reading at the end of the day. The God of Sno Cone Blue was that for me. A fresh and new story line and I loved the letters that Grace's mom wrote to her and how she kept the mystery going both for Grace and for the rest of us. I felt Grace's frustration in waiting for the next letter and in wanting to know the ending. Grace did everything she could to get her hands on the rest of the letters sooner than what were being doled out to her every few months. I can see myself doing the same thing. Just the right amount of sadness, joy, lightness, intrigue and good satisfying ending. I LOVED this book and I am looking forward to Ms. Turnquist's second novel!!

OMG - Such a great read
What a great story. It was like two stories in one following the lives of the main character and her mother. Just when you think nothing else can happen it does. I so enjoyed this book and it was very hard to put down. By the end of the book I felt like I personally knew the characters. Growing up in a Christian home in Portland, Oregon in the 60's, my best friend was a PK and I spent a lot of time in the parsonage, which made it even more real, like I had lived that life. I met the author last year at a local high school baseball game and had to re-read the prologue and her bio to make sure the book was fiction - maybe parts of it are real--wonder what her inspiration was? Now I want a sequel. I will definitely be looking for her next book. Highly recommend for great recreational reading.

Great Book Club Selection
I recently read "The God of Sno Cone Blue" at the recommendation of a friend and as the selection for our small neighborhood book club. I was not at all disappointed. Marcia Coffey Turnquist created a compelling story with surprising plot development and beautifully developed characters, each with his or her own little quirk. The two criss-crossing plot lines featured young girl and main character Grace and her devoted mother Sharon. The story kept me enthralled, and because I read at night right before bedtime, I found myself staying up later and later to read "just one more chapter." The twist at the end of the book was just what I needed and was the "Wow" factor that made this book very satisfying. Great read! Thank you for joining our book club meeting via Skype, Marcia. We all enjoyed and appreciated chatting with you.

PAGE TURNER
I read this book in one sitting and could not put it down! The character development is incredible! I could identify with Grace and know she will be a part of me for years to come. The book touched on every emotion. I found myself laughing out loud and crying within pages. I loved the 1960 references and it brought me back in time. The letters from Grace's mother had a great voice and I could hear her talking while I was reading. The story captured my interest from the first page and had me to the very end. I loved the mystery that unfolded and I was shocked in the end. I kept thinking I had it figured out, only to find another twist. This book will make a great movie!

Gripping Book with all sorts of unexpected twists coming with each letter.
A great read that had suspense, drama, and finding out many things in the past. It kept the reader interested with each letter Grace received from her mother. You would always want to know more and would learn new things with every letter. It was well written, because it had a good story line and you were always wondering where it would lead to.It would be best suitable for young adults or adults of all ages. What I liked best about the book were the letters to Grace and how she found out about her past. What I didn't like was, what was in the letter from Grace's mom to the preacher? We are left hanging and wondering...perhaps this was done intentionally to see what happens in another book. Well done!

Stunning story
This was a unique and somewhat spiritual story about a young girl , Grace, who loses her mother to cancer Her mother wrote a letters to her daughter knowing she would die soonThe letters told a story about who her mother was and eventually led to the fact that her daughter had a mirror twin sister.Grace goes about finding her twin and bringing her home to her familyIt was a gripping tale and not a book to put down easily

some great, some good
I joined a bookclub about 3 years ago and we have read a large number of books...some great, some good, and some we didn't care to finish. The God of Sno Cone Blue was one of the great ones! Every member of our bookclub agreed that they loved it! What I found really fascinating was that when it came to discussing the book at our monthly meeting "everyone" had something to say!!! There wasn't a moment of silence....we all wanted to express what had been personally meaningful to us. A really really good read! If you're in a bookclub it's a bonus because you can have someone to share the story with!
