A big hit!
My daughter adores this toy! It's records pretty clearly, and it clips on to just about anything she's wearing, which is perfect as she is currently obsessed with pretending to be Judy Hopps. I will say that the badge could be a tad smaller and much thinner, rather difficult to get it clips on too anything. Overall, a wonderful set for little Zootopia fanatics.

big badge, little guy
first of all the product is good. it is what it claims to be. however the recording "pen" is not a pen at all. however if i drill a hole int he bottom i can insert a pen tip just fine. but right now its only a recorder (like a yak-back). but it works and works well! it will look great with my costume! the badge is huge, way bigger than the movie and way bigger than it needs to be. maybe if i was Francine the elephant on the ZPD, this would be a good size. however, it will have to do. with a little repainting, i'm sure it will look fine with my costume, even if it is a bit big (3inches wide, 2.5 inches tall). over all i am very happy since this was a hard play set to find. i do recommend!

Stops working for no reason
This carrot quit working four months after purchase. When the batteries are changed it works one time then quits. It has never been outside or in water or damaged in any way. Tomy, the manufacturer, says they haven’t produced this toy in over two years. BMX stores just try to refer me back to Amazon who says I can’t return it.

The toy itself was great. My granddaughter loved it
The toy itself was great. My granddaughter loved it, as she did the movie. But as I recall, the packaging defeated the whole purpose of the movie, which was to discourage stereotypes. So who did they put on the package of this girl rabbit who broke all barriers to become a police officer? A little white boy using the recorder! Nothing against little white boys, but we are trying to tell little girls that they can be anything they want to be. So I blew up a picture of Judy and pasted it over the little boy's photo on the package. It really was disappointing, but we overcame the poor marketing.

Perfect for my little
This item arrived right on time amd my 4 year old couldnt be happier. Both badge and pen have a solid clip on them which i value so it doesnt break easy. This is not a pen like in the movie but the recorder works and is easy for her to use. Personally i find the item worth my money spent.

Our little guy loves it
I'm pretty much forced into watching this movie everyday by a small human that I created. He freaking loves his carrot pen!.. and I love that he can't actually go around drawing on everything in sight! He doesn't talk much yet, so his 4 yr old brother leaves awesome messages on it for him to play back all day. Today, it's "you're a poop head" over and over and over again because this thing really works! It's very well made and looks just like the one from the movie

Not worth the price
The recorder only records about 3 seconds at a time, and it’s not a pen. $50 was way too much for such a simple toy. It’s cool, but more of a $20 toy, I feel tricked and would send it back if I could.

Adjust your expectations and you'll be happy with it
My child fell in love with Zootopia about six months too late. I have it on good authority from a family member who works in Disney's marketing department that the merchandise didn't do very well, so they've discontinued most non-apparel items. Even with those connections, we couldn't scare up a carrot recorder pen anywhere else. This is not the official Disney Store licensed version (I actually like this one better because it comes with a badge and doesn't have character pictures on the carrot, which my child finds more realistic.) The badge is as pictured with the slogan, etc. It's clip on - not a pin, so my child can get it on and off by herself quickly without the dreaded finger sticks. In the movie, Judy's pen writes and records. This only records, but my child is fine with that, and most kids who like the movie are just learning to write anyway so they'd rather 'pretend' that part. The record function was surprisingly easy for her to figure out and use - we have another similar record and playback toy that is pretty finicky, but she was off and running with this one after one quick demo and it's very consistent. It records about 5-7 seconds, I'd say. It's all made of plastic; but has stood up to some hard play surprisingly well. That said, I doubt it will last a year, and I have no clue if or how the battery gets replaced. It was a good stocking stuffer, and we've had some fun with it. I'd give it four stars except for the price. Watch this one - it goes up and down, black market style. I saw it for $70 from a few sellers before Christmas, although it tended to hover between $30-40. Ridiculous at any of those price points. I waited until the first day shipping by Christmas wasn't guaranteed and it dropped to $14.99. That's on the high side of what this is worth, but good enough for me. I ordered from the only US based distributor (in NY), who kindly got it to me on December 23rd anyway. I recommend that company highly. If you absolutely HAVE to have Judy's carrot recorder, this is the one to get - and the Disney Store can't help you. But it is what it is, so adjust your expectations.
