Mainstay Lift-Top Coffee Table, (Brown)

I've had this table for fifteen months and it is still in perfect shape. The lifting mechanism hasn't weakened and I lift the top up and down throughout the day, every day. It also holds a fairly heavy load with no problem. I keep a twenty pound lazy Susan with a laptop on top of it at all times and it hasn't budged. Easily seats two people to eat without a problem. I also use it for doing paperwork. This is a great, multitasking surface for small spaces. I love it!I had a look through the other reviews before purchasing, and I suggest you do the same so you know how to add an extra ounce of prevention to your care taking. I would add that you need to be careful not to allow any drops of liquid to sit on the surface for too long (meaning more than an hour or so), as it will cause bubbling. I avoid the issue completely by using place mats and coasters. Clearly, this is just compressed wood with a thin, faux wood veneer. What do you expect for a hundred bucks? But it is nonetheless quite attractive and, more importantly, VERY useful for people with limited space!The lifting mechanism arrives in place, so all that you have to do is attach the legs. If you have a drill with a bolt tightener attachment, this will literally take a couple of minutes. Otherwise, you might find it awkward. Nota bene: if you've just moved and will be putting together multiple pieces of furniture, it is very worthwhile to invest in a rechargeable drill with multiple attachments on Amazon, to meet all of your basic DIY needs. I got the BLACK+DECKER LDX172PK 7.2-Volt Lithium-Ion Drill and Project Kit, which includes bolt tighteners, but the price has gone up like $25 since last year!Anyhow, this is a fantastic piece of furniture at a great price point and I could not be more pleased with my purchase.Final Update: I had it a total of 7 years before replacing. I'd say the first 5 it looked great and a little care went a long way. The lifting mechanism remained very sturdy the entire time. It did start to get nicks here and there that I used an espresso color matched wood marker to cover. By 2022, I just figured it was time to replace it and I'm getting the exact same one. I might have gotten another, but the HEIGHT of the table when lifted up is an important thing to confirm if you plan to use this often to eat at, as I do. A lot of the ones I looked at were a few inches lower when raised. No bueno. Final remark is that this was a great coffee table for its purpose and at its price point. Highly recommend for single people or couples without a lot of disposable income or who are looking for a table that does double duty and will LAST.

Nice, small table. Lift-top works nicely. Can handle weight of laptop and your dinner plate. Can hold books, remotes and laptops inside. Hardware is easy to put together. Just some allen wrench screws. My bag of screws broke in shipping so I had to find them in all the packaging.

Well I will say this looked easy to assemble. The problem was that it was missing parts and the main part of the table was cracked in half when I opened the box.

Excellent purchase. Yes, the "wood" is pressed fiberboard with a veneer that clearly won't hold up well for very long (I give it about a year max before it looks too beat up to stand any more), but the lift up mechanism is what I was most concerned about - and THAT is solid. Very sturdy when in the up position even when our cats jump up on top of it. Plenty of storage as well. For the price, it's a good deal. Use it right off the bat to get "up and running", and use the next 6 months or so to plan your time so that you build a completely new enclosure that you transfer the lift up mechanism into…an enclosure that you built so it will last, and that you can match perfectly to your decor. Maybe a different shade of stain, or maybe paint it red…whatever works for you.In the meantime, you have an inoffensive dark "wood" table that will function while you concentrate on other things (like taxes! - it's that time of year…) or while you go on vacation or whatever. In the end you'll still have the lift up mechanism - which is worth about $50 in and of itself - and once you put it into your own DIY table, you'll have a perfect match.Not a bad deal at all once you amortize out the cost over 6-12 months…and realize that you'll still have the mechanism to use for years more as well :-)

The table top had one small dent on the edge, but otherwise the build quality is excellent. We purchased it for its size and functionality as it fits the living room area of our motor home perfectly, and allows guests to have dinner with us, or is used by me as a computer station while sitting on the sofa.

Table moves up and down very easily and effortlessly but the material is not great, it came with a huge scratch that somebody tried to cover with a pen mark. If you leave a glass of water, it will absorb the water into the wood. It was cheap I guess

I purchased this table for my son. It's comparable to an IKEA product. It serves great as an extra eating area for guests. He is pleased. Is it a great piece of furniture, no, but it looks nice, and serves it's purpose. Great table for the money!

My guests love this thing. Its cheap but it looks nice and if you take care of it it will last. The wood is not authentic it has a top layer glued on to make it look like real wood. It will peel off if you are not careful. I didn't buy this thing to have some real mahogany, I bought it for the function and the lift top can support a good amount of weight. It can sit 2 people and have dinner on it at standard height for any couch/love seat. The storage compartment is nice just make sure you have enough in it when you lift up the top because the weight can make it fall over if there is nothing in the storage. I would buy it again.
