My favorite notebook
I love these notebooks. I have two at the moment, one to record my ideas and designs for stained glass projects, and one for my even nerdier hobby of designing and developing old-school NES games. I have the quad ruled variety since I'm always sketching out plans, tables, graphs, etc. These open up flat which is fantastic, and the paper is thick enough that I write entirely in pen and often use water-color markers to rough out ideas in color. The hard covers are solid and the ribbon bookmarks (two) are handy. The back cover has a pocket that's useful for storing any related loose pages. These are a little pricey, but if want to keep a record of your ideas and designs I can't think of anything better. These are high-quality and will last a long time.

Gorgeous and functional
This notebook is so gorgeous and well made that it was hard to write in at first. It’s about the size of a MacBook Air, larger than a piece of printer paper, but slender. I love that the pocket fits full sheets of paper and that it lays flat when open, which was a nice surprise. It has the same index, pagination, and labels as other Leuchtturm 1917 products. I will definitely start using these for drafts of manuscripts and large scale projects that require charts or images. I’m using with fountain pens and there’s little to no ghosting. Pictured with 13” MacBook, kaweco sport, pilot metropolitan, and Leuchtturm 3.55 x 5.95” pocket notebook for reference.

love this notebook
Dots are the way to go!! love this notebook. I was worried about the size, I am used to the smaller notebooks but this size turns out to be my new favorite. Large pages with faint dots to keep my lines straight but not too much if I want to go outside the lines:) The paper is good quality, I only use fountain pens and I get minimal to no feathering or ghosting. It opens mostly flat, better than most notebooks so easy to write on and the hardcover doesn't add much weight but is firm enough. I love this notebook and would suggest for those who like to write or need to take notes in meetings or journal. I got mine here, but learned about it on Goulet Pens they have some great videos so you can see them.

This is a large and tall notebook for those who need the size...
Since 1999, I have been keeping a writer's notebook in 8.5x11 sized spiral bound notebooks. They line up quite nicely on the shelf, but spiral notebooks covers (front and back) tend to tear-off over time, the spirals get smashed and turning pages becomes difficult, and generally do not lay very flat if you tend to paste things into them. This year I heard about these Leuchtturm1917 Master notebooks and decided to give it a try. I will never go back to spiral bound notebooks ever again. First of all these notebooks are wide enough to paste an entire 8.5x11 piece of paper into the pages without trimming. (see photo for example) A godsend for me, as I often paste computer printouts into my notebooks or letters or emails verbatim into my notebook. Not having to re-size or trim the edges off an 8.5x11 letter-sized sheet of paper again, is a small miracle. Secondly, these notebooks lay very flat, so despite having bulky pasted-up pages in the notebook, I can still write on them without having any problems. Some issues, though, that you should be aware of. These notebooks are much taller than the usual spiral-bound notebook. (see photo for example) So, it may have a hard time fitting into a smaller messenger-type bag. However, if your bag or backpack can fit a larger laptop, fitting this notebook will not be a problem. Similarly, fitting this notebook onto a shelf might pose some difficulties as it is very tall and would have to fit onto a shelf that was tall enough to fit, say a coffee table book. Being hardcover, these notebooks are heavier than spiral-bound notebooks even though the Leuchtturms have far fewer pages. However, I appreciate the hardcovers for long-term storage and use. Lastly, the price of these notebooks are quite eye-popping, maybe 10x more than my usual notebook. But, knowing these Leuchtturms notebooks are not going to rust like my spiral-bounds are doing are worth the price to me. Also, if you have the same hubris as me and think that your notebooks hold information that future generations might find interesting/helpful, you have to go with the much binding and qualities of the Leuchtturm notebooks.

Perfect for sketching, organizing, etc.
WHAT IT IS: An oversized black leather-covered notebook with dotted pages, a back pocket, and ribbon page marker. THE GOOD: This notebook, like the rest of the Leuchtturm line, is very well made and sophisticated looking. The cover is of lightly pebbled black leather with a good feel to it. The notebook lies almost flat when opened up. The ribbon bookmark is of good quality (satin?), as is the elastic that holds it shut. First two pages are a fill-in-yourself Table of Contents, and all pages are numbered. (Yay!) Back cover has a sturdy folder large enough, I think, to fit standard size loose leaf pages in. Last few pages are perforated for easy tearing out. Also includes a more than enough labels for the cover and spine (for archiving I suppose), which are quite useful. THE BAD: The paper used, while very creamy and smooth and of obviously good quality, might be a tad too thin for say, fountain pens. While it is 'ink-proof', as in feather-proof and bleed-proof, will still show up a bit on the oposite side. It shouldn't be a problem with fine-tipped pens or pencils however. THE VERDICT: All in all, this notebook (and the rest of the Leuchtturms for that matter) is very much worth the money, while being considerably cheaper than more popular alternatives (*cough*Moleskine*cough*). I use this notebook for sketching and organizigng new layouts (I'm a graphic designer) and I find it an invaluable companion for day-to-day work. It's definitely worth the money.
