UPDATE (7/1/2013): We have recently redesigned and reinforced our handles to make them more durable and comfortable when you are cutting. This set includes our 5" Slicing Knife and 4" Paring Knife with the horizontal Ceramic Peeler. They are perfect for small to moderate cutting tasks that requires precision.THE CERAMIC ADVANTAGE Imagine paper thin tomato slices or perfectly diced onions, Shenzhen Ceramic Knives give you precision slicing every time due to ceramic’s special material properties. The blade is made of an advanced ceramic called zirconium oxide that is much harder than steel, and second in hardness to only diamond.Ceramic blanks are produced by dry pressing zirconia powder and subjecting the blanks through an advanced heating process called, sintering. The ceramic blanks are then sharpened and honed to a razor sharp edge and attached to the knife handle. This results in an extremely hard blade that maintains its edge approximately 10-15 times longer than steel knives. That means your ceramic knives can be used longer without resharpening.Ceramic is also non-reactive, which means ceramic knives will not rust and are easy to clean. Because of their resistance to strong oils and acids, they won’t absorb flavors or odors from foods; which won’t leave any after-taste residue on foods that you slice. It also keeps fruit and vegetables from browning as quickly.STEEL KNIVES VS CERAMIC KNIVES Unlike ceramic blades, steel blades are porous, and they can sometimes leave behind an after-taste or residue on the food you’re cutting. And due to its softer material, steel blades lose their edge much quicker than a ceramic blade, and they need to be re-sharpened often. Properly cleaning steel knives to prevent rust is a must as well, as they will corrode eventually, unlike ceramic knives.Because you can’t use ceramic knives to chop or cut through bones, cheeses and other hard foods, ceramic knives will never fully replace the steel knife in the kitchen. You will still need to use your steel knife for heavy duty cutting, but Shenzhen Knives are a perfect complement to your steel knives for slicing fruits and vegetables and other precision cutting tasks.THE SHENZHEN KNIVES ADVANTAGE Shenzhen Knives is the leading online brand of ceramic knives. As a result of our e-commerce only sales model, we can make high performance ceramic technology available to everyone. Even though ceramic knives were first introduced over 25 years ago, the price has not changed much, even with improvements in ceramic technology and manufacturing. We soon realized that there were so many layers of marketing and distribution. At Shenzhen Knives we do not spend millions on celebrity chef’s endorsements, and avoid brick and mortar retailers who need to add their huge markup to cover their overhead. We felt that such a great product –that doesn’t need to be sharpened as often as a steel knife, and knowing the blade won’t rust – should be in everyone's kitchen.CARING FOR YOUR CERAMIC KNIFE Ceramic knives are for slicing purposes only and should not be used for any other purpose. Never "force" the cut; if it does not slice easily and you need to press down hard on the knife to cut your food, the knife blade can snap. Please do not do the following:CUT BONES: Never use your ceramic knife to pry or cut into bones as this may cause the ceramic blade to chip, or the tip to snap off.CUT FROZEN OR HARD FOODS: Do not use on frozen foods or hard foods (such as cheeses, carrots, melons, etc.)STRIKE HARD SURFACES: Do not strike hard surfaces with the ceramic blade (either sideways to crush garlic or blade-down to chop bones) or drop the knife on the floor as the blade may break.SHARPENING YOUR CERAMIC KNIFE If properly cared for, ceramic knives can go years without re-sharpening. However eventually the ceramic blade will develop micro nicks that will make the blade feel dull, and can be re-sharpened using a diamond sharpening wheel. Our Shenzhen Knives electric 2-stage electric diamond knife sharpener is perfect for sharpening both your ceramic and steel knives. amazing value for awesome knives!!
I am so happy with my ceramic knife purchase! To be honest, I was kind of skeptical about what the quality of the product would be since the price was so competitive, but I think this knife set is an AMAZING value! Seriously, two knives plus a ceramic peeler for under $45 is so awesome!I love to cook a lot and use knives to prep food every day, so I definitely feel like I put my knives through a lot of wear and tear. Amazingly, these knives have passed with flying colors! First of all, the handles are designed for comfort and ease of use - the ergonomics are great, and I love the soft rubber surface. And I totally notice the difference in blade sharpness, as compared to regular steel blades. I usually have to sharpen my steel knives pretty often to keep a nice sharp edge, but haven't felt like I will need to do that with these ceramic knives for a long time. I think at first, the sensation of cutting was a little different with ceramic than steel, but you can tell immediately how sharp these blades are! They cut through tomatoes like a dream, and even go through hard butternut squash really well. Even the peeler easily skinned the butternut squash! One thing about ceramic knives in general that should be known is that you have to be a bit more careful with the blade than with a metal blade, since the ceramic material could possibly shatter or break if dropped. So yeah, that means you probably shouldn't use it to cut bone (which I never do anyway!), nor toss around or drop on the floor. I guess this could be inconvenient to some cooks, but for me really isn't an issue. Also, I think I should mention that the peeler is horizontal, which is different from my previous peelers. Although it took a little time to orient myself, it doesn't effect my positive opinion of the product. All in all, I love this knife set and would totally recommend it to any and all of my friends and family! Too bad I didn't buy more sets for Christmas presents!!

One Sharp, Two Dull
Our one requirement for making this purchase was that the knives should be sharp. One knife was just that; super sharp! The peeler and the other blade were extremely dull. Better quality control would sell a lot more knives. Returned these for a refund. The handles are cheap also. They came in a pretty box, though. Maybe you really do get what you pay for.

Not that sharp
I didn't notice anything special about these knives. They were no sharper than anything else I own. Disappointed and cannot recommend.

Very Sharp Kinves
Shenzhen knives came with a display show case which present them as collectible. With the Shenzhen knife I need not spend too much effort to slice grape fruit. It makes every slicing job as easy as cutting Tofu. However the ceramic peeler takes off too much. If the manufacture narrows the gap between the blade and the guide a little bit it would be perfect.I do not intend to use this product for daily chef works. As a fragile collectible ceramic item with a show case and such a low price I like this product very much.

GREAT DEAL!
Just got my set and am quite satisfied with it. Blades are sharp, cuts very well. The peeler is excellent. I like the black handles and black peeler, sort of gives it the cool sleek look for my kitchen. Defintely good when you want to impress your guests! =)It's a little bit of a pain to take care of, as you need to be careful not to damage the blades which are brittle. So you can't wash it in the dishwasher with other utensils and need to store it in a block. But that's something that isn't much of an issue if you want to buy a ceramic knife and a great price (half of what Kyocera sells for!).

Makes Cooking Really Fun
One of the things I found most annoying about cooking was cutting up all the veggies, especially onions, tomatoes, and peppers, which seem to find their way into every meal I like. Part of the reason is that I've only had crappy IKEA knives at home. I've tried using a knife sharpener but they're still really dull and it takes quite a bit of effort to chop through everything. I heard about Shenzhen from a friend who swears by ceramic knives so I got the Fruit & Vegetable Series set. I was pretty excited when the set came, and I immediately started shopping my veggies with the slicing knife. It was an amazing feeling -- the knife cuts through super smoothly and I was getting some really clean cuts through the tomato skin, which felt great after all my troubles with the IKEA knife. I've been mainly using the slicing knife as I don't eat too many fruits to use the paring knife (allergies). As for the peeler, I've been having an awesome time making lemon peels for my favorite cocktails. The thing is wicked sharp so you have to be pretty careful. I also found it really fun to use for shaving thin slices of cheese. I'm hoping these last me a while, and I'm really tempted to get the Shenzhen chef's knife so I can do some mean chopping on meats and potatoes.

not that sharp
They call this the vegetable series but the knives are not that sharp and I have a hard time cutting carrots with the larger of the two knives. There is no way that you cut open a squash with it. I even had trouble cutting through grape tomatoes. Not what I expected. I have used ceramic knives that were really sharp. The peeler does work nice though and it very efficient. I didn't really buy the knives for the peeler though, it was an added bonus.Addendum: The company contacted me after reading my review and wanted to make sure that I was satisfied with their product. I appreciate a company that wants to make sure their customers are happy and would order from them again and I would encourage other buyers to order from such an upstanding company.
