Lumens for the Layman
Dear Amazon Shopper,Fenix is typically a brand associated with high-powered, entry-upmarket flashlights. Indeed, the few smaller-sized Fenix lights I own have all performed beyond my expectations. That being said, given their relatively high cost and comparatively gaudy output, Fenix flashlights are not something the average consumer would normally think to buy. Here the LD15 stands apart from Fenix's other offerings. With the LD15, Fenix seems to have caught on to the notion that not everyone is a flashlight enthusiast with enough light-emitting devices to rival a borg mothership. This nifty gadget is a legitimately useful item for the average person, more so than larger, higher-powered flashlights. Let me explain why:1. It's extremely light and compact - This flashlight is just a shade over three inches long, which, for comparison, is likely no longer than your index finger. It is accordingly very light, making it easy to carry around with you (which brings me to....)2. It's designed for portability - The compact size and light weight of the LD15 make it ideal to take with you virtually everywhere you go, a notion that was not lost on the people at Fenix. The LD15 comes with a lanyard and has a tiny hole drilled into the bottom of the light through which you can thread said lanyard, or, if you prefer, your keychain. I opted for the latter and have found the LD15 to be an invaluable source of illumination where I would not otherwise have thought to bring a flashlight.3. It's quite powerful - At 117 lumens, this featherweight behemoth is over 50% more powerful (on its maximum setting) than your standard triple-D Maglite. Its illuminating power is more than adequate for the vast majority of tasks and is quite remarkable for such a small device.4. It's very durable - I have dropped this flashlight (along with my keychain) on a number of occasions and there is not a scratch on it. It has been caught with me in torrential downpours and thrown across rooms and it still functions flawlessly. The look and feel of the light is solid.5. Battery life and availability are good - Pop in a single AA battery and this thing will churn out just shy of a couple hours' worth of lumens on high. Since you wont be using the flashlight continuously, this translates to a great deal of time between battery changes (enough that I can't peg the exact interval), at least in my case where my usage is not particularly intensive. Also, when the battery runs dry, you can just grab another one from the 96-pack of AA's you bought for $25.6. It has thoughtful design/aesthetics - The flashlight is quite sleek-looking and has texturing on the head and handle for traction when gripping the light or adjusting the beam intensity. It can also be set down easily on either of its flat ends assuming it's not anchored to your keychain. There are, however, a few quibbles I have with this light, though they are not sufficient to reduce my rating from five-stars. Nonetheless, you should be aware of them:1. It's not "roll-proof" - If you've ever used a flashlight, you've probably experienced that moment where you hear a foreboding noise and turn your head just in time to watch, in abject horror, as the flashlight you just set down on the counter has begun to roll away from you like something out of the exorcist, only to plummet to its demise as it goes crashing to the floor. Some manufacturers have seen fit to incorpate squared edges into portions of their flashlights to avoid this unpleasant scenario. Sadly, Fenix, at least with the LD15, is not one of them. For me, this is not a problem, since it's threaded onto my keychain, but if you plan to just keep it loose, be prepared to snatch it if it starts to get away from you.2. The "low" setting is rather low - Yes, I know it's called "low," and the designation is highly appropriate. With an output rated at an anemic 8 lumens, the low setting appears to exist solely to provide you with that last flicker of illumination before the battery runs bone-dry. I have never voluntarily used this flashlight at any output other than high.3. It heats up - Naturally, such a small light with such a high output is going to require significant heat dissipation. The front end of the LD15 heats up very quickly, making me question whether the low setting might also be intended to give the flashlight time to cool down while still being (somewhat) usable. I haven't had any issues with overheating, given a maximum of maybe ten to fifteen minutes of sustained usage, but it's a point of concern nonetheless.4. It has no buttons - While I understand that it was necessary, and that a button would just be a weak-point in the LD15's design, the absence of a button may be offputting for some. The flashlight is actuated and regulated via turning the cap, which is a bit odd at first, but becomes more natural as you get used to. That being said, buttons are still more comfortable and familiar to use.5. It's neither the smallest, nor the most powerful compact flashlight Fenix makes - the LESS-expensive mini-E15 is actually a fair bit smaller than the already miniscule LD15 and has a whopping 170 lumen peak output, making it a shade over 45% more powerful than the LD15 as well. This may beg the question, "Why, then, would I buy the LD15?", the answer being that in order to achieve greater output in a smaller package, a CR123A battery was required for the mini-E15. While it may be a couple of dollars cheaper than its AA counterpart, expect to shell out $3 per battery ($2 in bulk), with the internet being your most reliable source of CR123A's (making them not very available in a pinch). So that about sums it up. While LD15 has a couple of minor foibles, they don't hold it back from being a powerful, lightweight, compact, reliable flashlight that deserves a place on your keychain.Thank you.

Great little flashlight
The Fenix LD15 is a great little flashlight for everyday carry. i've been using the LD15 heavily for almost a month now and i can't say enough good things about it.The battery life is exceptional for how bright the flashlight is. After close to a month of everyday use, the cheap AA alkaline battery i tossed in is still running strong.I ordered the Fenix LD15 through Amazon before i ever saw one in person and was amazed when i saw how small this light really is. The LD15 is about 1/4in. longer than a tube of chap-stick and very close to the same diameter and only weighs 0.72oz(without battery). The fit and finish of the LD15 is very nice. The screw top feels great, it's tight enough there are no worries of accidentally turning the light on, but loose enough it can easily be operated one handed. I carry this little light everyday all day in my pocket with my keys and a bic lighter for just under a month and the finish still shows no signs of wear or scratches.I was also impressed with the battery compartment. it's design prevents accidentally using the light if the battery is incorrectly installed. It also holds the battery very tight, there is no feeling of the battery rattling or moving at all in its compartment once the light is assembled. The overall look and feel of quality of this light is great, even the packaging is nice, there is no doubt you are holding a quality product when you pickup this light. The LD15 is a little expensive compared to other single AA led lights, but is quality and extreme brightness is more than worth the extra bucks imho. Finally i'd like to say, buy one! or two. It's a perfect gift for just about anyone, weather its for everyday use or an emergency light in the glove compartment.

Good Light, Poor Switch
I bought this little light to put in a Maxpedition mini pocket organizer because My Fenix LD20 wouldn't fit. The LD15 fits perfectly (see customer image). It's a very good, very small, light that works on a single AA battery. It's just what I was looking for, except for one thing. The design of the switch mechanism is entirely sloppy. You just unscrew the bezel, separating the contact in the head of the flashlight from the battery. You leave a 1/16" gap between the head and body of the light in the process (see customer image), which is aesthetically unacceptable in my opinion. Worse still, the bezel is slightly difficult to turn because the rubber O-ring that keeps water out acts as a brake. This presents a practical problem in making it difficult to operate with one hand. Fenix touts the bezel switch as more secure than other types of switches. Insofar as I can recall I've never broken a switch on a flashlight, so I'm underwhelmed by that claim.I'm giving the product four stars because it's still a solid light that exactly suits the purpose for which I bought it. If the problems I mentioned you don't trouble you, then by all means buy an LD15. For my part, I wish I'd looked a little harder, rather than trusting Fenix based on my experience with the LD20. There are likely better options.

SUPERBE !

Great Light!
Unbelievably bright for the size. Only takes one AA battery which is a huge plus. Small enough for your keychain... but if you want one that's a better size for your keychain get the Fenix LD01. I bought one as well, at the same time. However this one was a replacement for my first one. It too was/is a great light... not as bright but damn good for the size.Delivery was very prompt and was as described. Happy with shipping, happy with the seller and happy with the product... not much more to say

Tadellos
