Bright white light
Totally simple install and a nice clean look. The thing is, this particular “daylight” LED is super bright, super white light—it is a little shocking in a small space, especially if it's the only source of light. I installed these in a room with high ceilings, where the can lights are used only when I need some major illumination for cleaning, painting, etc. Perfect for that!

Cree 5000K recess LED Replacement
I've replaced a lot of the incandescent recessed lights in my house with LED housings similar to this one. In areas where recess cans penetrate into non-conditioned/attic space, I've actually removed the cans (leaving the old 'new construction' housing) and installed ICAT's (in-contact, air-tight cans) into the old housings, then foamed where they attach to the old housings.I've used the Cree (whom I believe to be the best at LED lighting) 2700K LED's in our master bath, upstairs hallways and third floor loft space.I thought I'd try the 5000K Cree LED's for six recess lights in our kitchen for a brighter light. They are brighter. And, they look horrible. They give off a stark 'clinical' look, almost a blue color, like being in a doctor's office and almost fluorescent-looking. I doubt I can send them back but I'm certainly going to change them out. Before buying these, get one and install it to see what you think. These Cree lights install so easily -little more effort than changing a bulb, but the 2700K's look much more like what we perceive as good lighting.

Game changers!
These are game changers! Our home gets no natural sun light. By installing these lights, we feel like we have skylights installed in our home. Please note, your eyes will need to adjust to this hue of white. After that, your won't be sorry you did it. I currently have them on a dimmer switch and no buzzing at low light settings. I recommend them to all my friends!

Good, but buzzes with several approved dimmers.
I replaced incandescent bulbs and trim in five kitchen can light (recessed) fixtures with the Cree 6 in TW Series 5000K retrofit kits. I purchased both the daylight (5000K) and warm white (2700K) models to determine which color temperature we liked better. We chose 5000K versus the 2700K because the 2700K made things look to yellow. A color temperature between, such as 4000K, would be preferred. A bit too bright, I decided to add a dimmer switch on our 3-way switch application (two switches control same lights). Referring to Cree's recommended compatible dimmer switch list, I installed the Lutron DVCL-153PH in one of the two switch locations, which is acceptable per Lutron unless if the standard switch has a light built into it. The dimmer caused the lights to buzz at all dimming levels similar to linear fluorescent fixtures. I then tried Lutron MACL-153MH and had the same buzz at all levels but also some flickering when powering off. There was no buzzing with the standard switch. Lutron was helpful and recommended the DVELV-300PH, but at $70 I decided to switch out the bulbs instead with Phillips 800060. The Phillips have minimal to no buzzing and use less power. I would recommend these Cree lights only if buzzing doesn't bother you or if you will be using a standard switch. The color of the Cree's are nice, they turn on immediately, and they slowly dim off when powered off. In addition, the body is shorter than others so it fits without modifying existing can housings. Installation was a breeze in both my newer and 30 year old can housings.

100% better than soft white. Lights up our kitchen like an operating room.
