i didnt know that its a fantasy book

i bought this book because i liked the cover and saw it in my dream without knowing what is it about or what genre is the book, after reading like 200 pages i gave up on reading it (i dont like fantasy books)AND THEN after like reading half of the book my friend told me that there are a few books that i have to read before this so i can understand the plot better and it makes sense tbh. when i started the book it didnt make any sense. also why isnt the cover of this book the same as the other 3 books that i was supposed to read before this
