Q: since hair is dead keratin protein, i am concerned that the AHA might break down the hair itself over time.

I cannot use KM products due to the high amount of essential oils. It strips my hair of all shine. You are right., hair is dead. There isn't anything on the market that actually "repairs" your hair but when you find one that works for you it will temporarily make your hair look better until you wash again. AHA's are good for your hair and will do no harm. You can find plenty in the drug stores.

I only use my maxi wash about once a month to clean my hair of all the products I use. I haven't noticed any hair loss from that.

You can use this daily, my hairstylist used to say it's like makeup remover for your hair. But really you should wash per your hair type. I only wash my hair once a week anyway because I have very thick coarse hair and when I do I usually use this. If you use a lot of product or have build up you need this.
