No Better Candle Lantern!
This is my second UCO candle lantern. I purchased my first one over 25 years ago, still have it and it is still in perfect shape. In years past I have purchased several different types of folding candle lanterns, all are nice and work well but, none are any better than this simple UCO lantern. I have the flat fold reflector for both of them which I think has been discontinued by most vendors but UCO still has them so I bought a second one for this new lantern. They emit a very pleasant light and in the dark, once yours eyes adjust, more than adequate light to see about in your tent or camp. Another thing I like is, if you need a bit of light to see around in the dark, inside or outside of your tent throughout the entire night, this will burn all night on the one candle. It's just the best little light ever. Nothing to compare to the harshness of LED lighting or battery powered lights in general. Don't get me wrong, battery lights are very useful too when you are cooking in the dark and need to see what's going on but, for a relaxing evening outdoors, in your tent etc. this is the lighting to use!

So cute!!
That’s the main thing I like about it. And it actually puts out more heat and light than one candle alone. Which is not much but still. Last winter I lost my electricity and was told it could last for hours. I live in WY and it was one of our colder nights. Just great!!! But what I had was about 45 scented candles. I put them all on the coffee table, lit them all. They put out enough heat to keep me and my 3 little dogs warm for a few hours. Power came back on and so we were saved.I feel like if I had 45 of these little lanterns I’d be fine. But I’m not going to do that! That’s dumb. But… I think they would definitely do the job if they had to. Will work good for light though. You have to unscrew the thing to blow out the candle. I guess that’s kinda positive huh? The thing would be good to go in a blizzard? I think so! Why would I be outside in a blizzard with only my little candle lantern???

Worked as Designed
I discovered in June 2022 that the glass cylinder will not survive a 3-foot drop to a concrete floor. My mistake. So, I ordered a replacement. (I can probably still use the original lantern, but it won’t have the wind protection of the missing glass.) When the replacement arrived, there were no extra candles. The product description clearly says that 3 extra candles come with the lantern. I checked recent reviews and saw that several folks back in the spring reported getting the lantern without the extra candles. So, I returned the candle. No hassle except for having to drive to the UPS store. I asked for a replacement. Fortunately, the second one has the 3 extra candles. The new one is made in China as others have noted. Yes, there is a slight difference in the original made in the U.S. and the new one, mainly in the color. The new one was a little shinier. But it still worked as designed.I am reducing my rating from 5 stars to 4 because of the vendor’s failure, in more than one case, to provide all the components being advertised.ORIGINAL REVIEW - 2021 - I had bought the aluminum UCO candle lantern more than 4 years ago, but had not had a reason to use it. Then the weather forecast was for severe storms. So I got the lantern out. I had to read the instructions twice to fully understand how it was to be set up and used. But after reading, it made sense and worked well. The top part, that pulls up, was a little hard to do. I'm not sure the guides were as smooth as they could have been. But it did open without too much pressure.I noted the time I lit the candle. Nine hours later, it was time to go to bed, so I blew out the flame. I relit it the next morning, and it burned for another 2+ hours before being fully consumed. The spring inside pushed the candle up as the top was melted and burned. So, the candle lasted longer than the predicted time and it functioned as intended.I took the base apart to install a new candle after the lantern cooled. There was some wax around the top of and inside the tube that holds the candle. I scrapped most of it out, not sure how it might affect the performance of the next candle. It went back together with no problems. While the candle did provide a fair amount of light, it was not enough that I could easily read a book next to it. Of course, it is a small candle. It is designed as a camping candle, but I was using it inside a house. (UCO makes a 3-candle lantern that I'm sure would produce more light.)In spite of the lower light level, I gave it 5 stars for the length of burn time, lack of wax mess, and the fact that it worked as designed. By the way, on the base of mine, it said, "Made in USA." Apparently, the company switched to overseas production after I got mine.

VERY well made!
Ok, I dropped my brand new lantern...I know, I'm a klutz, and I feared the glass had shattered. To my surprise, upon gently opening my lantern, it was in perfect condition (other than the top being slightly askew which clicked right back in place). I'm impressed, very impressed! The photos shown are the first burning and you can see its in perfect condition. I wanted to see if, upon burning the candle and heating up the glass, if any crack would become evident but I've burnt it now for 6 hours and none are apparent. I highly recommend this lantern and I love the amount of light it puts out.
