Great control, but a word of caution
Great control, but a word of caution... Works perfectly with my new Hunter 3 speed, reversible fan... Just a word of caution... Once wired to AC circuit, this controller will bleed 120 volts at the fan, even with control switch in OFF position... Be SURE to turn off breaker that connects to the controller before wiring fan... Do NOT rely on the controller switch to remove power...

Solved a Significant Motor Hum Problem on My New Hunter Fan
I finally broke down to replace a 25 year old ceiling fan in my bedroom which I was controlling with a variable speed fan control. The fan was fine but was a little small for the space. I'm a big fan of Hunter ceiling fans (no pun intended), so I found a three speed 60" Hunter ceiling fan which was much better moving air in the room. Unfortunately, the variable speed control was creating a noticeable hum at any setting on the speed control. My experience with repairing heating and A/C systems has taught me that continuing to operate a fan with that humming noise can substantially shorten the life of the motor. After replacing the old control with this Hunter control, the hum is completely gone.Replacement was very easy for someone comfortable working with electricity. Just connect the line, load, and ground wires, and remount in the box. It fits with existing "switch" plate covers since only the shaft of the control comes out (i.e. not good with the Decora style plates). For those who haven't done this before, make sure the chain pull switch on the fan is set to the highest fan speed (should be the first "click" from off) or the motor will strain to start up. This is true for any ceiling fan with a speed control. That's why they always start with the highest speed - the opposite of a dimmer control for lights. Would have liked this to be a little less expensive, but definitely worth the investment to protect a $200 ceiling fan.

Using this to control two fans.
I installed two 60" commercial Hunter fans in my shop. The control that comes with them requires a rocker opening in the switch plate. I already had one rocker in my four gang plate and a cover with two rocker and two standard switches is tough to find and this switch solved that problem. The fans draw one amp each on high and this switch handles that (2.0 amp max), however with two fans the medium and low speeds are much lower than what I think they should be. Medium seems like low speed. I'm sure this is not a fault of the switch, just my setup with two fans.So far, so good, and I'll post an update if the switch fails prematurely with this setup.

A little different than the picture
It’s pretty much as advertised. I bought this to replace one that went bad. We have these in every room of the house (was that way when we bought it). The dial markings on this one are a different color (gold) and has hunter printed on it. Not a huge deal as it doesn’t look bad and we just reused the dial from the bad one, but you expect the product to match the picture.
