Q: I bought this in Feb 2015 and the experation date was rubbed off upon arrival. What's the shelf life?

The shelf life for refined Palm oil is 2+ years.The shelf life for red palm oil is 1 year. Refined coconut oil should last 1½ years without showing signs of rancidityA properly purified unrefined coconut oil will keep much longer than refined oil and this applies to other vegetable oils as welSaying that, each time I bought mine, they came with about a 1 1/2 year expiration date from when purchased it. I hope that helps.......I have yet to get a bad one sent from them.

no- refrigeration is only needed after it's opened

Q: Does it work for frying?

It works fine for frying, and it seems like you can use fairly high temperatures. I use it for popcorn and it works just like coconut oil.. Be aware that it is heavy compared to canola or other vegetable oils and has a fairly strong taste, a cross between butter-flavored Crisco and coconut oil. It"s heavy enough to add a slight taste to something bland like popcorn. Also, the color is a fairly deep yellow, if that's a consideration.

Q: Does it have a coconut taste?

I've been using this in my baking, including Pizza Crusts, for around 8 years and I have never noticed any smell or taste of coconut. Red palm oil is a Superfood, extraordinarily good for you and fantastic for so many different baking needs. I highly recommend Nutivia. It's imperative to Know where the Company is sourcing their Palm. Too many new Palm plantations demolishing Rainforest Habitat that are Irreplaceable.
