This cup an saucer were made, I believe, in England, in the city of Spoke-on-Trent where Spode manufactures all its production except for their "Christmas collection" which I have read is made in China. There is no provenance indication under the cup or saucer, but I have seen copies made in China which weigh less and have a fuzzy blue design.

Does this chip very easily?

NO, I have loved these cups and they are difficult to find; for a number of years they stopped making these cups. I started using this china about 16 years and it still looks good. A couple pieces of this china have chipped, but not these cups. I have two girls who sling the china plates around and are very hard on them especially when they are having to unload the dishwasher.
