I am aware the cup size is 35mm, but what is the offset of the cup from the edge of the door? 3mm,4mm,5mm?

Hi, this distance size is total depend on your door installation. Normally, 5mm is recommended for most doors.

What is the cup offset for these hinges? The best I can tell, they are 3mm offsets.

can I use for chest lid with flat surface under the lid?

If they can be correctly installed to your chest lid with flat surface. we can say "Yes, they can". Normally, This hinge type will suggest for cabinet door. If you want to use them on the chest lid, we recommend you to equip with gas piston to support. Thanks

How do adjust i these? instructions say it can be adjusted 3mm up/down, 2mm to side, and 1mm depth. but how?? which screw adjusts in which direction?

You can adjust the two screws on the hinge arm for horizontal and depth direction. And screws on mounting plate for vertical direction. Thanks
