I own “7000 Years of Jewelry” and love it, but this book presents hundreds of pieces I have never seen in any of the other art and jewelry books I own, or the museums of New York City (and maybe DC). My only negative comments are that the paper and binding are a bit lower grade and some photos are not super-high quality. Buy this book!! Review: Great Book - This is a beautiful and very large book. Very informative.

Great book poorly packed and shipped
Great visual reference for an aspiring jewelry maker, collector or historian. I wish the book had been physically packed and shipped better. It was dinged and slightly ripped and dog eared upon receipt.

too broad for a jewelry library, okay for someone wanting an overview,

A very good read. Loaded with ample pictures. The text and photos are all high quality. The book was new and well packed. A collectors ‘s delight.

Superb, wide-ranging survey of personal adornment from the prehistoric onwards. Because this was originally a german publication, it includes many items that you just don't see in other books that rely more on the good old V&A archives, and some fresh perspectives.

As a collector of books on jewelry history, I appreciate the unique layout in this one. Rather thank divide the contents into sections based on geographic location, culture or jewellery style, it's organized chronologically. This makes it really interesting to read cover to cover (which I'm doing) as elements from various cultural groups are presented side by side. Excavated treasures from South America are shown next to European classics, which gives a really cool sense of history; who was making which adornments when. As others have said in reviews, the fact that the images are all from the German museum collections makes it a book of new pictures, with input from expert voices not typically heard in English books. The only downside is the binding. My copy has a weird little bunch of folded paper in a fan-like shape stuck between the cover page and overleaf, which crumpled a few of the first pages. Since it's just for my own reference and enjoyment, I chose to keep it, but if the book were a gift, I would have probably exchanged it for a perfect copy.
