Good
Yum! Just like we ate in England. The problem was it arrived frozen solid as it was Minnesota in winter. So, I refrigerated and ate both within 2 weeks. Please put a label on that it is for and needs to be hand delivered.

A complete waste of money
My first thought was, where's the steak??? My second, what a rip off. I then checked the ingredients - no surprise out of the 6 very small pieces of steak (tiny) I look at the specifications. The entire tin was 10% beef - no wonder I struggled to find it. Absolute ripoff and it did not even taste that great. I am so glad I held back and did not order the half dozen tins that I was planning on. Forget nostalgia, this Scottish company only get to rip me off ONCE. Tomorrow I am contacting Amazon and asking for a refund and to return the other tin. NEVER AGAIN!!!!

Americans probably judge too harshly
For what this is, it tasted good. I wasn't expecting anything impressive and I didn't grow up in England/didn't grow up with this as a food item. I learned about them from a video online and I knew what to expect. However, I did love the crust on the pie. I read the reviews and baked it on a lower temp for a longer time and it came out perfectly. Definitely put a cookie sheet under it. It had a gelation texture which is a big complaint, but again, didn't bother me because that's the texture you get with cooked meat. The biggest complaint I read was the kidney bits... again, small bits, but it's an acceptable amount. Overall it was good, I will probably order it again.

Not worth the money
I had these pies often as a young person. My dad was British, so it was fairly common. And it was available for purchase in the US at the grocery store. I haven't had it for several years though, and I found it online so I tried it. Far more expensive, as it wasn't considered a high price food when I was young. I was disappointed in the overall quality, the quantity of the actual meat - although what I could find was really good. Unfortunately, the pastry was like sludge under the top crust, which was great. I have one more pie, as this was a 2 pie order, and I'll follow the advice of another reviewer and cook it longer at a lower temperature to hopefully cook some of the sludge. I doubt I'll buy it again, as the cost just doesn't justify the small amount of meat.

Tastes like home
I may not be British but my husband is and I love these pies. They taste great and are definitely a comfort food for me. The only thing I dislike about them is how much they cost stateside, but for me its worth it.

English Cooking at its Most English
The top of the pie cooked beautifully - nice flaky crust. The bottom was not quite done. Probably would be better to cook it at a lower temperature (e.g. 350 or 375 instead of 450) for a longer time (60 minutes instead of 30); or transfer it from its native baking pan to another pie pan (or oven-safe casserole dish, etc.).As to taste, the taste is quite reminiscent of classically English cuisine and its Charlie Tuna tradition. That is, whereas [Brand Name Withheld] prefers tuna that tastes good over tuna with good taste; English cuisine prefers tuna with good taste over tuna that tastes good - and that philosophy extends to this brand of steak and kidney pie.So, if you're looking for classic English cookery, look no further. If you're looking for something tasty and much more edible, try a recipe by Delia Smith.
