If you bought the extended warranty after a year yes send it to the warranty place . Under a year minelab covers the work contact them.

Minelab makes two different battery packs for this unit one is rechargeable and the other takes batteries. This is obviously the one that takes batteries and does not recharge. Probably not what you were looking for.

Yes, that is correct. It's just the shell so you can use AA batteries in it. There is this and then there is the actual battery. This is spare system that allows you to use AA's.

You get about 12 hours on the rechargeable battery. It is a little heavy so I bought a attachment to keep the battery around my waist instead of on the handle. Mine is five years old and still holds a good charge.
