Can you use a double looped flex cable with it to protect your wheels? I was thinking 4', 3/8" thick cable

Flex cables are no security, however. VERY, VERY easy to cut. You don't want to waste money and have a false sense of security. Trust me, I'm a retired police officer and know what I'm talking about here.

Can a locksmith open this lock? Not interested in opinions, interested in knowledge from someone who knows.

Just depends how they pin it. Also, they don't show anyone busting it with an impact drill. When all else fails it's pretty easy to just drill things out as a brute force access option. I get into houses in about 15 seconds, and if they beat it up or broke the key off and I can't grip it out then I can drill in in a matter of minutes, if that. And your house should be far more secure than your bike..." He was a locksmith for 3 years for a 24/7 emergency lock-out company that served all types of locks, even cylinder locks like on coin-op washing machines, houses, cars, etc. Then he moved on to ADT, then SEI, and now he is with a private, local digital security installer and still freelances lockout & pin changing via business cards/etc word of mouth offers. I once was in the car with him when he got a car lockout call. We pulled up in the parking lot behind the car and he got out holding his tool roll and at that moment I pulled my phone from my pocket and unlocked it, then looked back up and the door was open and he was laughing because the lady said "Holy crap that was quick! $75/second more like it!" ... Their rate was $75 per call with a differential for nights and holidays. I trust his judgement. He talks about "the illusion of security" a lot. I'm in IT Networking and I would have to agree from a cyber-security perspective as well. If you wanna rabbithole the illusion of cybersec, search for @Viss, Hack5, and "red hat hacking." lol

Is this lock rust free?

I had mines for a little bit.... I've used it in the rain no rust, it is protected by some sort of hard plastic. It is a good lock and easy to use and even more easy to carry because its on your bike, but I do carry a u lock with this one just to deter the theves, this lock is not an overnight lock, it is good for I would say 3 to 4 hours at a time, I would say get yourself s mini u lock with this, it could be a cheap one doesn't matter. But I haven't ha any problems with this lock at all, and they give you three keys... they work very smooth.
