Mikasa Sports Intermediate Size 3 Water Polo Ball

OK... I got this in the mail, it has a really pretty yellow color and these great racing stripes on it. First I thought it was a soccer ball (no... has texture on it), then a tether ball (no, they have a hook on them). Took me a while, I did an image search and this is a polo ball. Now I have seen polo games on TV, and the ball they chase around on those horses... and smash with those mallets, is a lot smaller... so this must be for beginners.The only problem with this is that it was flat. I almost marked it down one star for that (perhaps I should have anyways since it is a bit too big for polo). Anyways, after long inspection of the flat ball, I found a little black round rubber thingie with a hole in it. I looked it up, and if you stick a needle in that hole, you can fill it with air. I got one of my wife's needles, and was completely unsuccessful in getting it to fill up. Finally I looked on the web, and there is a YouTube video on how to fill a ball. I had to buy a really special hollow needle with threads on one end, and an air pump. I figured out how to mount the threads into the pump and was able to fill the ball up (great! Success!).Since I don't have horses, or mallets, or a polo field, I figured it might make a nice pool toy (along with the floaties and noodles). So I threw it into the pool and pretty soon the kids in the pool were playing some sort of soccer game, and having a lot of fun. So if you accidentally bought this for polo, have no fear, it makes a nice pool toy. I actually recommend it for large pools.

Her brother is playing at Whittier College. Her sister lettered as a sophomore in high school and competes at the Junior Olympics. Our 10 year old has some big shoes to fill, and she has the ambition to do so. Mikasa balls keep their grip and hold air well. Used properly and not left to float in the pool over night or bounced repeatedly on the pool deck, she will outgrow this ball before it wears out.

I got this size 3 for my 7 year old son. It’s a bit big for his hands still but it is the size they use in water polo for kids. It is a Mikasa and they have made water polo balls for decades. They know what they are doing.
