1) The Renegade RSS has a tighter weave. 2) The laptop pocket of the Renegade RSS zips down about 20% of the way and you can hardly open up the compartment; the equivalent pocket of the Gambit zips down to the bottom of the backpack and can thus be opened completely. 3) The Renegade RSS is more padded (but the Gambit is still well-padded).

Dunno about specific dimensions. My 17.3 inch Gigabyte and Asus laptops do NOT fit. I ended up getting the THULE 32L bag. It's very capacious.
