Excellent USA made general purpose knife
Knife arrives sharp and passes the newspaper push cut test. The blade is full tang and 0.188 inches thick. Balance point is just below the guard so it's handle heavy. The grip is comfortable but note that is only 4 inches long so it may feel small in big hands. The handle is just big enough for my hands but I wear medium gloves. The blade material is S35VN which is a powdered super steel which means it is tough, keeps an edge and is rust resistant. This makes the knife a bargain as knives made of powdered steel often sell at much higher prices. The sheath is solid with good retention, not too tight or too loose. The clip fastens to the knife in only two positions, either up or down. Horizontal or canted carry is not possible with this clip, but there are 10 holes in the sheath for lashing. The blade marked with the ESEE logo, USA and ROWEN. The knife is made in Idaho, USA by Rowen Manufacturing. Overall, the knife looks like an excellent general purpose carry knife. Make sure the handle is big enough for your hands.

Excellent all-around sheath knife(and value)!
I have some nice knives including a Chris Reeve Sebenza. I am very impressed with this knife, both on its own merits, and from a value perspective. It's not fancy but it is very well made and I'm sure it's going to be extremely durable. It's a thick piece of excellent S35VN steel, flat ground with a very nice edge. Super sharp out of the box, and the sheath is very good too. If I had to pick a sheath knife to have on me for any occasion, it would likely be this one (although the ESEE 5 or 6 might be a better choice for a true survival knife). For an all-around knife for camping, hiking, and bushcraft, I think this ESEE-4 is outstanding. I doubt there's a better value out there. Well done, ESEE! I'm a fan now.

An Excellent Choice!!!
Love, love, love this knife!! The spine and tang have a noticeable thickness that really inspires confidence that you would have to work hard to break this knife. A higher quality steel quality steel. The beautiful G10 scales add to the heft of this jewel. It might get heavier than some others, but you know you can depend on this blade. If I could take away a half star it would be the handle is a little small for my larger hands. That won’t be an issue for everyone. An excellent choice!!!

Very impressive knife!
Mine arrived razor sharp. Really like the comfortable milled 3-D handle scales. The plastic sheath works great and does not rattle. The high quality stainless blade will give me decades of rust free performance! Esee quality I can depend on!

I love Esse knives
I love this knife. I shopped along time before choosing this one. Great steel and a great G10 handle. I highly recommend it.

A must have
The bad Bought the knife on November 5th as a celebration purchase and unfortunately it was delivered on November 20th, I was starting to think it was lost. Now the good Is Esse you can go wrong with these knives. Is my second Esse knife purchase you can see my feedback. This knife is a medium size and fits very nice on an extra large sized hand, well balanced, the materials are nice and you can see and feel quality. It comes with the normal Esse stuff, card, stickers nice box, plastic sheath (as is shown on the first picture). I personally don’t like plastic or kydex sheaths. Therefore I bought here in Amazon the BPSknives black leather sheath.(as shown on the second picture and bought separately). Now the best The knife is American made. Recommended five 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Almost the perfect knife
I own about 7 ESEE fixed blade knives, and I thought this one would be my #1. If the grip was just ¼” longer, this would be the perfect all around EDC, bushcraft, camp, and general purpose knife. The steel is phenomenal, the canvas micarta scales feel awesome. My hand just needs a little more grip to hang on to. I may have some custom scales made to solve this problem. The only aftermarket scales I’ve seen that try to address this issue aren’t quite right. ESEE could make it perfect by lengthening the grip about ¼” to 5/16”. I love the knife overall. I just received a ESEE-4hm that I ordered. It will probably end up being my #1, but I know from handling my SSEE-3hm that I don’t like my index finger running right up under the blade, and I’ll miss the awesome S35VN steel, but maybe the handle length and handle to blade ratio will be better than the 4.
