I wanted a marine varnish to protect 2 tables & 4 benches that were being left out in the sun and rain from late May to early October, restaurant patio season. With covid and the onset of outdoor patio's the rain had worn the finish off both these tables. I sanded down to remove the water damage and purchased a gal of gloss and a gal of satin from TotalBoat Gleam Marine Varnish. I did the first 5 coats of gloss and the last 3 coats of satin to bring down the shine. Before I topped it with satin, the gloss finish looked like it was a thick clear epoxy finish. I lightly sanded with a 400 grit every 2nd coat, the finish on these tables and benches is just amazing. I love this quality product better than any varnish I have used to date. And I only used about 1/2 the gal of gloss and 1/4 of the gal of satin. The photo's are of tables and benches finished with the satin varnish.

Goes on well with a foam roller. After 5 coats on a 4 X 8 Maple sanded plywood, dried in the late Summer sun, you end up with a nice. albeit, orange peely finish. To be fair to the product it did hold up thus far on interior grade Maple plywood outside in the elements for ever 3 months near a East Coast marine environment, but so did the glue on the other side (and for atleast 3 years on even pine, speaking for the glue) I'm sure sanding in between will enhance finish but as a lazy time pressed chap I'd rather just coat with some Titebond 3 1111 Waterproof Glue.(.8 Gallon for a 4X8 sheet of plywood 2 coats) Yes glue as a sealer/preservative. Then you have to wear nitrile gloves whenever you apply product, close can, etjc., I like products that are organic, low VOC, etc., this is not as user friendly as a variation of the Elmers glue you can lick your fingers clean and live to tell about it. Youtube censores me with views since glue is used for adhering not traditionally employed as a sealer/stain) in just under 90 in a year so leaving sentiments here.

I was looking for a protective white finish on a truck camper I was building. I had to paint it outside and had to deal with stupid seeds from a cottonwood tree. Apparently this is like a magnet for them. The really frustrating part was the color change. It went from ultra white to antique white. I am trying to figure out what my next steps are. I will let it cure, sand it out and then maybe coat with another paint. It's not a fault of the varnish (Gleam), just very frustrating.
